HE-400/HE-300 vs Sennheiser HD650/HD600
I bought the HD650 a month ago due to all the recommendations on head-fi, and I can honestly say that there's a reason these are so recommended in the mid-fi range of this hobby. They are so good at being all-rounders! I use them to play games on my PC, listen to a lot of EDM (used to be a lot...- rivalyoung

Drum-fi
Nice, I'll have to check it out! I've been a Zildjian guy since I started, but I do know that they're overpriced for what you get. Lately I've been really digging the sounds of some Paistes and Sabians for much less than what I paid for my cymbals. I'll have to look for a local shop that carries...- rivalyoung

Drum-fi
Sweet setup manveru! Is that a Zil Bell on top of the crash above your snare? Interesting! I play "open" with my left hand for hats a la Carter Beauford style, but instead of having my ride on the right and playing it with my right hand I have my ride on the left of my hats My crashes are above...- rivalyoung

Drum-fi
I've been playing on and off for about 17 years, and I still use the same Pearl Export drums that I bought when I started back in high school, for practice or jamming. Here's my current set up at home: Drums: Pearl Export drums, 22" bass drum (Evans Genera G2's on top and bottom; Evans...- rivalyoung

Guide on How To Educate Others About Beats
To the OP: I got into headphones because my dad is a huge audiophile (owns B&W Nautilus 802s, McIntosh amplifier, Velodyne sub to name some of his gear) and when I started making money I asked him about good headphone brands. This was a year ago and I didn't know anything about headphones...- rivalyoung

The Basshead Club
Quote: I used to use www.di.fm a lot, but haven't lately. Now I download dj programs such as The Essential Mix or Tiesto's Club Life. I really like Essential Mix because Pete Tong always gets a big a variety of dj's on that show week to week and ranges the whole gamut of EDM. If you...- rivalyoung

Am/DAC/Headphones setup for 500-600 USD
It sounds like you have the same wide tastes that I do. I'm currently using 650's at home driven by an E10, but I'm on the pre-order list for the HE-400's which should arrive 2nd week of Feb. according to Hifiman. I'm also getting the E17 for travel, so I'll let you know how the HE-400 + E17...- rivalyoung

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)
Got my Mixamp and HD650. I have to crank the Mixamp to almost max volume to get loud enough in BF3, but I think that's because the 650's need a little more juice than normal cans. So far it's not bad... the sound positioning does help a little.- rivalyoung

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)
Great info OP! I have a Mixamp 5.8 + HD650 coming in the mail, and both are going to be fed by a Fiio E10. I used to be an ultra competitive gamer when I was younger (was sponsored for Counter-Strike) but have since grown out of that phase. Now that I have a career and such I have time to burn...- rivalyoung

Quote: Can you let me know how those hit for you? Some others have told me the same regarding quantity. I'll get the ZO2 amp first and bring it to the Sony store to demo the XB's with them. If it's too muddy then I'll do the same as you .- rivalyoung

The Basshead Club
Thanks for the input peeps + Val. My M-80's are fine at work, but sometimes when I'm at home I get a bass urge. Started getting into some dubstep and I can see the appeal for bass lovers. I'm going to my local Sony store to demo the XB500's/700's to hear what everyone's been talking about...- rivalyoung

M-80's for fps gaming?
I used to be a competitive gamer and I bought the M-80's a few weeks ago for work. I like these for portable use but when I plug them in to play BF3 or TF2 they're not great, if you're used to good sound imaging for gaming. Look for an open-ear can.- rivalyoung

Kinda new here. I have M-80's and S4i's and with my E10's bass boost on I can still use much more bass. Does that make me a bass head?- rivalyoung
