I've been switching to another USB jack and keeping the audio setting to 44.1 16-bit for now instead of 48khz. Haven't had lots of time on the computer to fully test though. Will let you know if I see further issues. Pretty sure my old e17 didn't do this

Having the same issues with my Mac Pro running mountain lion, with the replacement E17 I received.   I switch the settings in Audio MIDI setup between 44.1khz and 48khz but the device status bar doesn't change to reflect the settings. I suspect the sampling frequency is getting detected...

Pretty sure there is a bug in the runtime calculation. My timer jumped from 0d to 27d in the span of three days. Received the device ten days ago and I'm already at 40d. Whoops!
