FWIW, I sent in my A55 for the warranty, and Sony just refunded my original purchase. They told me that it is no longer available, so anything being sold now must be old stock.

After some more listening, while (anecdotally) less, the fade-in is still present. Oh well, I might have to move on to another player. Even my old CD Walkman doesn't have any similar problem. What a shame, the player is otherwise perfect.

I tried installing WalkmanOne to see if it would help with the fade-in issue (WM1Z tuning), since I was considering moving on from the player due to this fade-in issue. It appears the custom firmware resolves the problem, at least partially. The fade-in is minimized, if not removed completely...

How strange... It's certainly there for me. I got one of the last production runs on Amazon, it sold out almost immediately after I ordered mine and it took about two months to ship.

When you press play/pause, the audio will fade-in, usually unequally (left or right first) like an MP3 player from 2002. It's very quick, but it's there.

What a shame!! The only problem I would remove if I could on the A50, is the audio fade-in. Apart from that, it's almost perfect.

FYI there is a program called Strawberry that can directly edit the A55's playlists. It's drag-and-drop, works great.

If you still have issues, try using your external card drive to transfer the files over, then try playing it on your computer directly off the SD card. I have way more than 16 folders on mine. Did you format the card in your Walkman?

That's quite a bit of music. I wonder how many hours that is. :) I assume your iPod (presumably a Classic) has been modded to accommodate 500GB? If I remember right, iTunes has a limit on track number in the iPod database. My only problem with the A55 is that it seems to have a short fade-in...

What's the best software to make playlists for the A55? Making playlists on-device generates some simple M3U8 plain-text files. It would be nice if I could make them on the computer.

This player really is fantastic. I've been using it since January, and it's fulfilled all my requirements. The battery life is excellent. Unfortunately, it appears it's been discontinued since it's no longer on Sony's site. What a shame.

I know that the mod is reversible, but what does it do? There are no details on the website other than "better" or "more awesome" sound. What is being changed? I can't find a source for the technical details.
