Review of Audio Technica ATH-IM01, ATH-IM02, ATH-IM03, ATH-IM04, ATH-IM50, & ATH-IM70
Can anyone with a pair of IM02's tell me the diameter of the nozzle? All this talk of tips has reminded me how good I got my old CK10s sounding with Klipsch Gels (tamed the shrill 9kHz peak a fair bit). Would love to try'em with the IM02's I've ordered.- BoyChewingGum

The DX90 by iBasso . . . Sound impressions . . . . . . . New Firmware, 2.5.1 . . .
With regards to the truncated playback issue, didn't someone a few pages back manage to rectify this by trashing some database files (off player and off card)? Personally I'll be very disappointed if gapless STILL hasn't been fixed on these iBasso players. Might get a Sony instead...- BoyChewingGum

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
OK so The Internet says use stock player only (when retaining maximum SQ is concerned)?? Since that looks like the case, what are everyone's impressions as to the FR characteristic of the player itself? Using low impedance (<50Ohm) IEMs. From what I remember from this thread, it appears...- BoyChewingGum

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
Ahhh... OK that makes sense, looks like we've been talking at cross purposes. I've no experience with CA+, so assumed that the bottom slider in the middle picture (labelled Clear Bass) was the same thing: Probably should have referred to this pic earlier. I have absolutely no...- BoyChewingGum

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
Thanks AW and Mython for the info. So can one not slide the Clear Audio + slider on the ZX1 to the left? Or does it not work like that? I'm still struggling to understand if this feature can be used to lower bass levels (seems not?) re Crossfeed - I've always thought that this feature...- BoyChewingGum

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
OK that's also nice to know. I'm still wondering about the quality and effect of using the Clear Audio + to REDUCE bass levels. Can anyone comment on this? How DSP-digital does it sound (again, using the feature to LOWER bass EQ)? Does setting Clear Audio + to a negative value affect...- BoyChewingGum

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
OK, thanks. And the Clear Audio + issue? Am ready to pull the trigger on these, but a lack of practical way to reduce sub-to-mid bass levels (without the issues you've mentioned wrt other player apps) is the only thing holding me back. Anyone?- BoyChewingGum

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
Has anyone used the Clear Audio + feature to reduce bass quantity? I've noticed from interface screenshots that the scale goes negative as well as positive. I often like to turn down the bass (eg for my HD25s) but the 400Hz bottom band on the built-in EQ doesn't look particularly useful. Also...- BoyChewingGum

Sony NWZ-ZX1 - 35th Walkman Anniversary model
OK, thanks for the info, castle. Would there be any disadvantage to using something like PowerAmp on this device? I'm not interested in ClearAudio or other effects (just EQ please... maybe crossfeed for old stereo recordings). In other words, would PowerAmp yield the exact same results...- BoyChewingGum

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how customisable is the EQ? Can you change the number of bands, the frequency centres, the 'Q' width??? I'm one of those philistines who has to have a good EQ.- BoyChewingGum

Are there readme's/notes on each firmware update? That'll be nice to see on the FAQ. Which bugs were fixed in which FW etc. Good work btw.- BoyChewingGum

Quote: Is it me or are FR graphs never labelled properly? As in, what standard is being used. It gets very very confusing if you're not sure whether you're looking at a compensated graph or a raw graph. I agree with DD that non-compensated graphs make more sense for comparison...- BoyChewingGum

Yeah I thought about a potential inconsistency in quality control and whatnot with the C4s. Had a long email discussion with David (the Frogbeats owner/director). In the end I sent my pair back to be retested by their engineers - they found no faults. Therefore I can only assume that the sound...- BoyChewingGum

Audio Technica ATH-CK10
Quote: Yeah they're a bugger to clean, but when they get clogged up, they Really get clogged up, blocking out the sound. I broke a pair after 18 months this way. I now regularly take the tip off and carefully pick at any detritus, being extra careful not to push the filter...- BoyChewingGum

Audio Technica ATH-CK10
I went through all sorts of tips before finally settling on Klipsch gel ovals (unless you have tiny ears, get large ones - they're undersized). To me they have the best sound (slightly tempering the 9kHz spike whilst maintaining all the airiness and clarity and 'cultured' bottom end), as well as...- BoyChewingGum

Silver cable definitely works; I have the silver ray and there is noticeable extra brilliance up top and more presence in vocals (= more upper mids). Soundstage is less concave, too. Unfortunately, the bass, which was already pretty fast (the one aspect a silver cable can improve), still...- BoyChewingGum
