Thanks, that would be great! I don't think I personally need it anymore, but I'm sure someone else will appreciate it. There are so many models these days, choosing is hard, every bit of info helps when making a choice.

What a pity you decided not to compared them to the Hexa, which many still cite as the best buy under $100, or at least a very good choice.

Tracks with best soundstage/ambiance in headphones?

What regards are there? :) I'm up for any well recorded or unusually recorded music. Yes, I've had HD800 for a while and was totally unimpressed with them (not HD800S / HD8XX - those didn't exist back then). I should hope they were driven properly: my equipment was EMU 0404 USB, O2, ODAC.

Tracks with best soundstage/ambiance in headphones?

Have you ever heard a track that made you think: "Wow, what is amazing soundstage!" ? Please share the tracks if you have. I've had no such experience, even with binaural recordings. I know some tracks that are better than others, but still underwhelming. I wonder if this is the best headphones...

    TOPPING DX1 is available now

Not true. It delivers ample of thundering bass and slam if your headphones are up to the task of reproducing it in the first place. With some headphones, like my Truthear x Crinnacle Zero IEM, you get more deep bass with poor amplifiers that have increased output impedance, like built-in...

Natural crossfeed on headphones / earphones for foobar2000 v2.1 [major update made public]

The bass is actually untouched, that was the immediate first impression but it was wrong. Try playing pink noise or white noise with and without your convolution, watching a spectrum analyzer in your player (it's easy to see in Foobar, for example). You will see the drop in the 750 to 6000 Hz...

Neutral EQ profile for Hifiman HE-400?

My question is about the OG HE-400, not 400i, 400S, or 4XX. Does anyone have an EQ profile that you like and that in your opinion makes the sound more neutral? I've had HE400 since 2014 and never thought they don't sound neutral in any frequency range, there's no problem per se that I want...

Hi, would you mind sharing your EQ profile for HE-400?

Natural crossfeed on headphones / earphones for foobar2000 v2.1 [major update made public]

Hi Joe, First of all - great tool, thank you very much for coding it all and making it available to us for free! The effect if very real and quite convincing. However, I have a major complaint: the plugin sounds as if it's high-passed. All the bass is gone, and some of the mid-bass, too, it...

    TOPPING DX1 is available now

Wow, I didn't think there are any of these left in the world! My first half-decent pair of phones, broken and gone a long long time ago. Apparently, they are still being manufactured, I'm genuinely shocked.

Who plays Glenn Miller the best?

A serious question! I always loved Glenn Miller's music and the sound of a big band. I've heard many, many recordings of the classic big band songs, various Glenn Miller tributes etc. And then I've listened to this album. Now all other renditions sound dull and boring in comparison, the...

How To tell between a 'real' FLAC and a 'fake' FLAC?

I think there are humans who can hear 21 kHz, but there are very, very few of them. If I was in your position, I would suspect that what I'm hearing is a harmonic (a result of non-linear distortion that any tweeter exhibits because nothing is precisely perfect).

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

Really wrong how / in what way? That there shouldn't be an audible difference?

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

Both my education and my own experiences (with music as well as with humans) 100% align with what you're saying. I'm curious, then, why do so many people claim to hear things that shouldn't be possible to hear? And I'm sure most of them are not liers, for them their experience is true. Is...

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

I understand that it's a subjective description with no well-defined meaning, but doesn't "warm" usually mean a certain shape of frequency response?

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

That's what I was expecting when I got them, but I did not expect HD800 to have such an uneven frequency response. They're overly bright in several ranges, not at all monitor-sounding. I'm unable to perceive them as more detailed than HE-400, all the things I can hear in HD800 I can hear in...

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

I've only once had a listening session when I thought I can finally tell a difference between two DACs. I was very excited. It was very hard to me to pinpoint what the difference was, but eventually I did it. Turns out, I switched L and R outputs on one of the two DACs I've been comparing. And...

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

I've just been reading this thread on R-2R DAC from Soekris, the thread is very insightful (at least to me).

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

I admit I've never heard a multibit DAC, nor, I think, a non-OS DAC (not sure about that dual mono AD1955 that's been borrowed to me as I think the OS can be turned off). P. S. The datasheet says AD1955 is a "multibit delat-sigma DAC". If I'm reading it correctly, "multi" means from 2 to 8 bits...

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

Much appreciate your reply! I look forward to sitting down and listening to the two albums you've mentioned through two different DACs and HE-400 / HD800 (I desperately need to find some value in HD800 or I'll have to let them go, since so far I have not been able to understand all the hype...

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

Thanks for the detailed reply! And while we're at it, I would also love to know which music you're listening into that lets you judge the DACs this way. Which tracks / albums do you recommend to try and listen for these subtleties?

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

Eh, I like to know I've given it the best chance I could. Having equipment that is objectively audibly transparent (i. e. impossible to be "heard" by any human) means I never have to worry about it ever again. But yes, from my experience so far, the acoustic system / headphones is where it's at...

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

Maybe I need to understand what to listen for, specifically. As for that OPPO device - thanks for the recommendation! It's way too expensive for me, but if I see one on sale used I may get it. Found a very interesting resource for reviews...
