HD 418 revived with Parts Express 40mm headphone element + Mods
They isolate ok. Unbeleivably good bottom end on these, very well controlled with bass/mid bass. Highs are a little subdued but my ears are quick to adjust. I think there is a bit of colouration with these but in a warm forgiving way. Anyone incorperate a ribbon into a headphone before?- jacobthellamer

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!
I have been using mine for almost a week now, sounded average at first(my HD515's sounded more detailed) but have really come into their own over the last couple of days. The was very suprised by them when watching the The Chronicles of Riddick last night, I have never heard a soundtrack...- jacobthellamer

Quote: Surely headphones operate in pressure mode at low frequencies, wavelengths don't really come in to play with the conditions that headphones operate. You are right about the seal, this is essential when operating in pressure mode.- jacobthellamer

Headphones versus speakers...
I personally much prefer the feel of good quality speakers. You just cant get the same feeling from headphones, I was listening to a track last night on my speakers that made my jaw drop. The feeling in your chest from well produced bass(even at low volumes) is not reproducable with...- jacobthellamer

Check the heater voltage on the heater not the gate as there will be a voltage drop between the gate and source. The IRF510's Gate-Source threashold is between 2V and 4V.- jacobthellamer

Quote: Sounds like either the bias on your mosfet has been tied to the 48V rail (R2+R4) or it has failed causing a drain-source short. Check the voltage on either side of R3 to ground. Let us know. With the circuit powered off check the resistance across R1 and R2 -...- jacobthellamer

Millett "Starving Student" hybrid amp
Just built the amp with Fujitsu 19R-P11 pentodes(wired as triodes) and a custom 48V power supply. There is a local electronics store clearing out their tube stock so I picked out 6 of these particular tubes hoping that they would work from the specs. I will be back for more as soon as...- jacobthellamer
