Yulong Sabre D18 thread: reviews, impressions, discussion (full review added 2/5)

AFAIK, shipping dual voltage electronics at 220 is standard practice, as plugging gear set to 110 into 220 is guaranteed to fry them (sparks, sizzle, you name it). If you set it at 220 and plug it into 110 it simply won't power up/mitigates risk of damage. Your D18 should be just fine...

Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.

What dac are you using with it? If your source volume is at 100% does the hum persist if you lower it to 50-60%? Since you mention it's a hum, and not a hiss, it may actually not be sensitivity dependent....could be some kinda ground loop issue instead. I know you've tried different outlets...

Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.

Quote:   That's probably a function of the very high sensitivity of the 1964Ears. Is it noticeable when playing music, as well?

REVIEW: Yulong D100 MKII DAC - an update to an already excellent device

Beat me to it, project86, I just ducked over to the original D100 thread to doublecheck my homework and was about to make a correction..

REVIEW: Yulong D100 MKII DAC - an update to an already excellent device

Quote:   I think that the analog outputs should be muted when headphones are plugged in, but I'm not 100% on that one. My unit is still on its way from Yulong HQ so I won't be able to test that for you myself...

HeadAmp Headphone Demos -- Sign up now for HiFiMAN HE-560

I'm wondering if the "vacuum seal" isn't responsible for that great, textured bass from the LCD-2s. That, and the added cushy comfort, are what separate them from the HE-500, I feel..

An LCD-2 love box is on its way to the next person on the list!   I can see why the LCD-2s are so popular on head-fi...they're so silky smooth, easy to drive, and their bass reproduction is really amazing . I don't know how Audeze got that bass to sound so articulate, controlled, but still...

Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.

Quote:   I've used both the Tamaudio class-A biased OPA627, and the Audio-GD OPA SUN in my M-Stage (v1). I prefer the OPA SUN as I think it provides all the best qualities of the 627 but with improved clarity and soundstage, but as far as I know, the Tamaudio opamps are all genuine.

Can't wait to pick up the LCD-2s tomorrow! I'll be comparing them to the HE-500 on my rig. I spent a little time with them at the DC meet in December, but got sucked into the vortex of awesome that is the HE-6 + GS-X combo :)

    Resonessence Labs Concero discussion/review thead

The easiest way I think would be to switch from the USB port on your computer (active), to a USB wall charger (like for phones, apple products, etc) or to a powered USB hub (power only).

    Resonessence Labs Concero discussion/review thead

Quote:   Since the Concero has USB and coax inputs, you could use the USB for your PC source, and then the SPDIF input for your CD player?   You'd still have to switch the USB cable from active to power-only USB port (to activate the SPDIF in), but at least that way you won't have to...

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

Looks like the rca outputs on the WA7 double as inputs and d/a outputs when it is used as a dac. At least from what I see on the Woo page

**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

OMG, Paul Oakenfold's 1999 Essential Mix World Tour is amazing...legendary! Seriously, just about every set is great - Miami, Shanghai, Havana.. and then have a listent to Carl Cox's world tour from 1998 for something a bit different tempo wise, but equally as brilliant.    The only thing...

Power Handling Capacity and Amp Output

Quote:   As I understand it, generally the higher the impedance of a headphone, the higher voltage gain and output voltage an amp should provide, the lower the impedance, and especially for orthodynamic headphones the more current it needs.   Check out the article here for all the...

Power Handling Capacity and Amp Output

Actually, they don't sound too bad if you use them as super-near-field speakers (1'-2'), and tilt the cups towards you. Of course, they won't give you the same "room filling" performance as even some crappy desktop speakers, and I doubt you'd get much of a bass boost even with EQ (no rumble, for...

Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.

Yes, the Q701 needs more gain than the ERP4 which is more efficient.

Matrix M-Stage amp review: simple, cheap, and excellent.

Quote:   How does it sound using the PS3 as opposed to your iphone as a source? Are you connecting your iphone through the lineout connection, or the headphone out?   Does the Q701 still sound strange if you use just your PS3?   If the M-Stage is the issue, it should sound poor...

...Anyway, does anyone know why exactly the M-Stage does so well with the AKG family? What accounts for this sonic harmony?
