Cayin RU7: 1-Bit Resistor Network Dongle DAC /Amp

Probably not. The converter just throws away the negative signal on each side, which then makes it like any other single-ended signal. -Ed

    Burson V7 Classic Pro and V7 Vivid Pro - Hi-Fi audiophile solid-state op-amps

@aurorafps Funny you mention that, as I just ordered one of those Little Bears, but I have some spare MUSES02s laying around so thinking just using that. I have V7 Vivids in my Fosi ZA3s right now that I plan to roll over into my V3 Monos when they arrive. -Ed

Introducing the xDuoo TA-66 OTL Tube Amplifier - Now Available on Apos Audio

I just ordered a new pair of cans, Monolith M1070C. It is 60ohms impedance, so we shall see how it holds up with TA-66, although my intention is primarily to listen to HD 6XX with my TA-66, it is still fun to play with it. The tubes and the TA-66 are burning in nicely and I am noticing that the...

Thanks! Yes, it was originally my interest in Apos Ray Reserve tubes that led me to buy the Psvane CV181-T MkII tubes that I am running now because so many people said that they are basically the same tube except Apos’ are just hand-picked top grade pieces. We’ll see how the LinLai E-6SN7...

    The Reference 6SN7 Thread

Thanks! I ended up ordering a quad set of LinLai E-6SN7 tubes to compare against the Psvane CV181-T MkII. My reasoning is that if the ShuGuang WE6SN7 Plus sound very similar to the Psvanes that I already have, it would not be worth the cost to acquire for more of almost the same. With the...

    Musician Draco R2R DAC

If I had to sum up the Musician Draco in as few words as possible, you’re trading away an OS slow/fast decay filter option from the Denafrips Enyo/Ares II to get I2S input. Their sound signatures are quite similar, close enough where it is difficult for many to say they absolutely prefer the...

    The Reference 6SN7 Thread

Between the Psvane CV181-T MkII and the ShuGuang WE6SN7 Plus, do you have a preference between them? Any specific differences at all in their sound? Or better said: since I already have the CV181-T MkII in my amp, should I even bother with the WE6SN7 Plus? Keep in mind that unfortunately for me...

The best way to know for sure is to listen for yourself on both connection methods and decide which you prefer. For me, I2S did sound better than coax. I also found AES/EBU sounded better than coax. -Ed

Introducing the xDuoo TA-66 OTL Tube Amplifier - Now Available on Apos Audio

I made an interesting erroneous discovery today: if you erroneously plug your source into the Aux Out instead of the Aux In on the back, leaving nothing hooked up to Aux In, it still sends a signal to your headphones, but it will be at what is probably un-amplified, line-level, and furthermore...

Introducing the xDuoo TA-66 OTL Tube Amplifier - Now Available on Apos Audio

Ah…I ordered mine from HiFiCollege. They were basically the only place I saw that had it in-stock (pre-confirmed via chat), rather than merely taking preorders. I did have to wait for it to ship from Shenzhen/Hong Kong, but it still got here much sooner than waiting on another reseller to first...

    Musician Draco R2R DAC

I was having occasional static on high-res PCM material randomly when using coax input from the USB-coax passthrough on my HiBy CR06 dock, but when using either USB input or the AES/EBU input, I have not had this problem. I also ran into static when first attempting to implement I2S from my...

Introducing the xDuoo TA-66 OTL Tube Amplifier - Now Available on Apos Audio

I actually bought aftermarket tubes for mine at the same time I ordered my TA-66, and I installed them immediately without listening to the stock ones since I had not heard great things in general about Chinese 6N5P tubes. For the preamp stage, I had great experiences with Voskhod Rocket tubes...

Introducing the xDuoo TA-66 OTL Tube Amplifier - Now Available on Apos Audio

CV181 and 6SN7 may be compatible with 6N8P, but the power tube on TA-66 is Chinese 6N5P, which has a different voltage and about 20db less gain, so it may not work at all, or if it does, you will need to turn the volume WAY up. -Ed

This essentially goes back to my comment about coax and noise rejection. The better coax cables will do a better job rejecting noise. The science leads to the proof (your experience with different coax cables). I am not sure why different optical cables would perform differently though, at least...

    Gustard U18

U18 came in today and I was able to get I2S working without too much effort. Toggling through all four settings on the U18 didn’t work with the default setting on the Draco. When I left U18 in Gustard I2S mode, and then started adjusting the I2S mode on the Draco, the first option I changed it...

    Gustard U18

Most of the time, optical loses out. It often suffers the most jitter of all connection types, plus it has the lowest bit rate/resolution limits, so that comes as little surprise that it rarely ever comes out on top compared to coax, unless you have a major issue with the coax cable picking up...
