Westone 4 Impressions and Reviews Thread
Picking up a FiiO E11 today from the post office to try with my W4s. Was just watching a movie last night with them and some of the explosions and deep rumbles were phenominal! Currently I'm trying them with the Shure Olives, and although they don't isolate as well as the triple flanges, the do...- BrianMB

Thinking about hearing Loss - Permanently wearing earplugs
Something I took to using my phone was setting my volume limiter to ~50% and then listening around 3/4 volume, which effectively puts it around 37% overall volume. Lately using Equalizer, I've set my pre-amp volume to -19db and listen about 75% volume, although what kind of db that is out of the...- BrianMB

Etymotic hf3 Review
I was on a call just the other day with my HF3s and my brother gave me heck after saying it was nearly impossible to hear me when I was wearing them over the ear. I only found this out after I spoke with him in person later that night. I'll have to test again and see, but there have been...- BrianMB

Westone 4 vs Shure SE535 comparison - Will update as I go along
Quote: I have to admit I definitely listen at a lower volume. I have my volume limit on my iPhone4 set to about 50-60% and then in EQu or Equalizer (use both) I have my volume 75%-100%. There are a few times I'd bump my volume limiter up a little bit, but I certainly don't like to have...- BrianMB

Westone 4 vs Shure SE535 comparison - Will update as I go along
Quote: I'm certainly looking forward to this myself. phntmsmshr actually had posted a similar EQ as what you have posted there (in the thread Lunatique linked on page 2), and I agree it certainly changes the sound from the W4s in a good way. They are not nearly as laidback as they are...- BrianMB

Etymotic hf3 Review
About the source file, I agree 150% Mark! A friend had borrowed me the Avatar soundtrack in 320kbps MP3, I could not stand listening to it over my iPhone4 with my Ety HF3s. I re-ripped the CD in M4A (Apple lossless) and infinitely better, there is no more crackling on many tracks. Needless to...- BrianMB

If you're still looking to make a purchase of any of those IEMs, I believe i2ehan still has them up for sale in his thread here. He recently finished trialing a number of different IEMs and posting his thoughts on each. for sale thread...- BrianMB

etymotic glider tips tearing
I agree with you guys, I've taken to using Ety gliders on my Klipsch Custom 3s, and the sound wasn't right from them today; I took a look and at the end they are splitting and separating from the core entirely. I have some Complys at home as well as olives, although I wasn't a fan of the olives...- BrianMB

Top Tier Showdown (Top Pick Announced)
i2ehan.... brilliant.... that's all I have to say.... If those other headphones are giving the W4s a run for their money, you must be in heaven! lol. I picked mine up yesterday from FedEx, and so far I've got about 6hours on them I would guess. No burn in, just straight into some music. With...- BrianMB

recommandation please: Westone4 vs. Earsonic SM3 vs. Westone UM3x
If you haven't already taken a look http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/553745/top-tier-showdown-updated-w3-um3x he's compared all of the IEMs you have mentioned here, with some good observations IMO. I should have my W4s tomorrow, so I'll be able to put some thoughts about it once they are in...- BrianMB

Top Tier Showdown (Top Pick Announced)
Well i2ehan, my wallet took a hit, and my W4s should be here tomorrow... or later today that is. If FedEx is alright with shipping them to my office, I'll be listening to them on my way home, maybe even at work... I really can't wait to put them side by side with my other IEMs that I've been...- BrianMB

My wallet hurts! This is making me want to try out the W4s all the more. Again with the W3 and UM3X, well presented thoughts in regards to both, and in comparison between the whole group!- BrianMB

Top Tier Showdown (Top Pick Announced)
Just wanted to say a thank you to i2ehan! I've been following your thread here since you posted it, and great job so far! I've been looking for another set of IEMs to try out, and have been throwing around the idea of DBA-02, CK-10, and W4. The W4 at this point I think are the ones I will try...- BrianMB

New to IEMs; Impressions Etymotic HF3 and Klipsch Custom 3
You're right about the KC3 being a great unit Mark2410, if they had the same life at low volume as they do at louder volume, they would be my all the time go to IEMs. In the meanwhile, I'll take a look around and see if there are any portable amps around that I might be able to try out. That or...- BrianMB

New to IEMs; Impressions Etymotic HF3 and Klipsch Custom 3
Anyone have any thoughts related to the Custom 3s, or is that simply their sound, and that they don't come alive until they have a higher level of current supplied to them?- BrianMB

What Size Olive's should I try? Small Tri-Flange Etymotic User.
From my personal wearing, I've been using the large Ety tri-flange, and I picked up the medium Shure Olives. For me they seem to fit about the same as the large. I've also been able to insert them just as deeply as the tri-flange when wearing my hf3s.- BrianMB

New to IEMs; Impressions Etymotic HF3 and Klipsch Custom 3
This is my first lengthy posting in regards to any audio related field, so my apologies if I'm a bit difficult to follow. Please let me know if there are any improvements I can make as all thoughts and feedback are welcome! So I have recently been required to take a bus to work and with all of...- BrianMB

Best IEMs based on some specific preferences
Quote: The way I've been wearing my hf3s, the only option you have is a deep insertion. Using either the large tri-flanges or even Shure Olives, I insert the phones equally deeply in my ear. And from my observations it provides very similar isolation. I would actually be tempted to say...- BrianMB

Best IEMs based on some specific preferences
Quote: not quite, the ER20s are just earplugs for blocking out noise. I think RADI0HEAD was referring that you could try out a set of triple flange tips and see if those would be something you could handle for less money ($10) rather than buying a set of ER4s or other IEMs.- BrianMB

Best IEMs based on some specific preferences
Just as a thought in regards to the Etymotic phones. Alot (relative) of people, in my short time lurking and now posting here, have mentioned the deep insertion of the Ety phones as a concern. IMO, if you are familiar with tri-flange hearing protection, and to some degree the foam plugs as well...- BrianMB

Noise Isolation earphones
Quote: How true that is. I can be in the office wearing my hf3s and hear absolutely nothing. My boss can come up to me like she did this morning and start talking, and I have to read her lips. Needless to say, she's learned when I first walk in and am still wearing my phones, she waits...- BrianMB

Monster Turbine Challenge - Reviewers Wanted!
I would certainly like to review a pair of Turbines! I have not tried out any Monster IEMs to this point. My current listening setup is my iPhone 4 with Etymotic HF-3s. As far as listening; Orchestra (typically soundtracks), Rock, Jazz, Metal, Classical, Swing, Alternative some Techno and...- BrianMB
