Headphone amp with balance control (left/right) for less than $750 USD
I have a slight hearing imbalance that is a little frequency dependent. For example, centering male vocals vs female vocals can have a slightly different balance setting. I usually just adjust things in software/at the source, but having a knob would make that a lot easier. However, it seems...- pennylane

Can someone suggest an amp or dac/amp with pan/balance control? $300 or less preferred
Hello, I'd like a new headphone amp, but my main requirement is for it to have a pan/balance control with a 1/2 dB or finer step (if it is discrete). I'm driving Denon AH-D2000's and Sennheiser HD-580's. I don't need anything amazing, I just would like an amp that can drive them well enough...- pennylane

large (> 60 GB) mp3 player?
My 60 GB iPod (5G? the first video) may be dying. The HDD is making strange noises and seeking is really slow. Something seems wrong. I question how long it'll last. If it dies, I'd want a replacement. I'm not a fan of iTunes (I've been using foobar to load music--mainly so I can...- pennylane

Decent nylon acoustic guitar strings?
Hello, I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to playing guitar, but it's fun and I'm actually practicing fairly regularly. It came to mind that I should get some spare strings in case they start breaking or whatever, but I have no idea what I should get. The guitar I'm using is not very...- pennylane

Filter in right Ety keeps getting clogged during airplane rides?
This has happened to me twice now. The right channel of my Etymotic ER-4P (a few years old) gets clogged soon after take-off on airplane rides. At first I thought it was just a coincidence and the filter just needed to be replaced, but since it happened again, I thought maybe something isn't...- pennylane

Stuff to see/do in or near Denver?
So I'm going on a business trip to Denver. And I was thinking of staying an extra day and driving around and being a tourist. I'm already there, anyway. What kind of stuff would there be to see or do in Denver? Thanks.- pennylane

I need a bike. Any bicyclists?
I'm in need of a commuter bike (I imagine that's what I need). Work is only about 2.5 miles away so a bike would be pretty ideal to get to work, and I could exercise without going out of my way to exercise. But, I don't know anything about bikes. I don't know about what I should know. I...- pennylane

Björk - Volta. On DVD-A/SA-CD?
Does anybody know if Björk's new album will be out on DVD-A? There's a special bonus disc that has a DVD version, but all the info I can find on it says "5.1 surround mixes on DVD," without saying whether it's Dolby Digital, DTS, or DVD-Audio (or all 3). Anybody have ANY info at all? -

Ety bi-flange question
I was not finding the tri-flanges very comfortable on my Ety ER-4P's, so I decided to cut off the last flange. It fits great and works fine, but I can visibly see the very tip of the headphone along with the green filter. Is this normal? I don't know how else it would work, but will this wear...- pennylane

Forums for DJs? (brother needs new needles)
My brother is a DJ but he needs new needles. He said he looked for forums online but couldn't find any. So I offered to ask here. He's wondering how much he should spend... either $200-300 or $300-400 (I'm trying to remember the conversation). He said the more expensive ones outputted 11-12...- pennylane

Cleaning CD player lenses?
How do you do it? Do those kits really work? I have a portable CD player that has CD reading issues (doesn't matter if it's a burned CD or not) that never had them before. I need to use the CD player so I need to clean it. I tried using a kit before but it didn't work that well, but the kit...- pennylane

HD-580 pads fell apart and I can't put them back together
I removed the velour pads from my HD-580 to wash them. I put them in some (clean) socks and I through them in the washing machine, after I did a search and that's what was recommended. They're clean and soft and there are no problems there. However, the foam part that goes between the...- pennylane

Had dealings with questionable seller (other forums) and I need advice
So, I bought an Xbox1 to use as a media center in the living room. In order to use it as a media center, I have to mod it (I plan on softmodding), and I was prepared to do that. However, the modding is what makes this situation complicated. I just received the xbox today and the packaging was...- pennylane

Does optical cable length matter?
I could use an optical cable and the ebay seller "uniqueproductsonline" is selling a ~6-foot for $19, but has a sale on the ~12-foot for $15. Are there any reasons, theoretical or otherwise, where the 12-foot may be worse? Thanks.- pennylane

Onkyo DV-CP802 or Sony C2000ES?
I'm looking for a reasonably priced (sub $400) decent source that can handle both CD's and SACD's. The 2 names I've seen pop up are the Onkyo DV-CP802 and the Sony C2000ES (DVD playback is nice, but not necessary). I imagine the vast majority of my listening will be with CD's, but I do have a...- pennylane

Cheap bang-for-buck speaker wire?
I'm looking for some reasonably price speaker wire. I only need enough for 2 speakers (Polk LSi 9's). I don't mind a little DIY as long as it's quick and easy (banana plugs and Home Depot?). If I could get something at a store as opposed to ordering it online, that'd be great, too. Under about...- pennylane

Opinions on Polk Lsi7 bookshelves?
I'm thinking about getting these speakers used. They seem to be able to be had for about $500. How are they? What are their characteristics? How do they compare with speakers at $500? How about all speakers under $1000? Will I want to get a sub sometime in the future?- pennylane

How much are DACs and other misc. questions
First of all I'm a total noob so bear with me please.
