I am interested to know what the status is of this also.  I keep checking Micca Store, mp4nation and ebay and have yet to see an L7 become available for purchase and I really need a stand alone DAC.   -Chris 

Just as a thought on this, Fiio does offer an L7 LOD that will plug into the E7 and will allow the DAC to be used with an external amp. This would mean that the E7 could be used with the E9 without using the built in dock and thus allowing you to keep the case on.  Just a thought anyways.  ...

I have the DT880/600's but have heard the DT990/600's several times on my little dot mkiv.  It is a great combo indeed!  you get the bass but the tubes warm the sound up just a little bit. Unfortunately the DT990s are considered to be one of the brightest cans around.  There is not much that you are going to be able to do to tame them.  The only hope to bring them down some would be to pair them with a tube amp and add the warmest tubes that you could find.  However even then they...

I have to agree with Riku here.  With the K701 being 62ohm and also having a sensitivity of 105db the E9 could drive them to levels that would literally burst your ear drum. The E9 likely produces somewhere in the neighborhood of 600-900mW at the impedance and with that sensitivity...

I agree with the DT990 recommendation.  The DT880 is considered a fairly neutral can.  The DT990 on the other hand has a very exciting sound character with loads of bass and sparkling highs.  It in allot of ways is the antithesis of the HD555.
