Head-Fi Meet Downtown Montreal 2015 AUGUST 30TH DATE CONFIRMED
Anticafé looks neat! My Stax and amps are away with friends, but I have a scary prototype of a new amp on a plank of wood. I should have a proper, safer build ready in the next few weeks. :)- PretentiousFood

Head-Fi Meet Downtown Montreal 2015 AUGUST 30TH DATE CONFIRMED
Really super sorry, but it looks like I won't be able to head over to the station until 2:30ish, which means we'd be in Brossard by 3:15 or so. I'm guessing that's getting too late. :( If you guys want to head over I can meet you there if the meet's still ongoing by then. Or maybe we could...- PretentiousFood

Head-Fi Meet Downtown Montreal 2015 AUGUST 30TH DATE CONFIRMED
Maybe we could just set up our rigs in Lionel Groulx? :) I could pick people up from Lionel Groulx, just not entirely sure when I'd be able to get there. If you guys wanna do that and 1:30-2:00 isn't too late, shoot me a pm and we can exchange numbers or whatever to figure out the rest. -
Head-Fi Meet Downtown Montreal 2015 AUGUST 30TH DATE CONFIRMED
Something came up last minute and I'm going to be a little tardy to the party-- probably going to make it closer to 1:30, if that's not too late. Happy to pick up other late people from Station Namur or Cote-des-Neiges. -
Head-Fi Meet Downtown Montreal 2015 AUGUST 30TH DATE CONFIRMED
Oh hey that's a good point-- all my DACs are S/PDIF only, and I have no laptop. I'll just bring the amps/cans and some cabling and use my phone as a source but everyone's welcome to use their on source on my stuff. I'll probably not bring the analog rig just because it's bulky-- it is working... -

That's right next to me; I could pick you up. :) -
Head-Fi Meet Downtown Montreal 2015 AUGUST 30TH DATE CONFIRMED
I could probably make it either day with some funky amps and a pair of Stax or two :) Got a neat phono amp if anyone wants to try, but my table isn't working yet. -
Head-Fi Meet Downtown Montreal 2015 AUGUST 30TH DATE CONFIRMED
It's been a while! I'm interested as always. Got a prototype inverted triode amp and a few other projects that might be ready for show and tell, and a couple of finished amps. -
How far have DACs come?
I'm still using a few HDCD DACs from the 90s. An Assemblage DAC-1.5 and DAC-2, and a Parasound 1600HD. They aren't as good as, say, a NAD M51 at its best, but they certainly hold their own for a fraction of the cost. Bits aren't really important for anything but digital controls, because the...- PretentiousFood

Dsavitsk/Beezar Torpedo Build Thread
Cool, I'll give it a go! I already have a sense resistor to monitor plate current, I'll just move it closer to the socket. Thanks for the reply.- PretentiousFood

Dsavitsk/Beezar Torpedo Build Thread
Hey Doug, I've seen you mention the stoppers in a few posts across the web. Grid stoppers are pretty routine, but I haven't seen much mention of plate stoppers elsewhere. Its the plate's capacitive coupling to the inputs more of an issue in high gm tubes, or is it something else entirely? How...- PretentiousFood

Late August isn't looking so great for me either, but I'm interested! We have another thread going here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/719330/2014-montreal-head-fi-meet I think it would be best if we found somewhere less expensive and more headphone-friendly than a restaurant, though. :)- PretentiousFood

2014 Montreal Head-Fi Meet
Depends on the timing but I'm probably in! Working on a 4P1L single feed spud for dynamics, some 6E5P/GU50 monstrosity and a 6HV5 spud for Stax so with any luck I might have an amp or three to show off. The 6688s were cute so I obviously had to stock up. -
My DIY electrostatic headphones
Hoping to join the leagues of DIY stats soon, just need to finish up my CNC. :) Why is it that Mylar's the polymer of choice here? Easier to tension?- PretentiousFood

Since the caps won't see much voltage, this would be a really good place to throw in some polymer caps instead of the usual electrolytics. Something like this would do nicely...- PretentiousFood

Electrostatic hybrid amp discussion thread
Neat design! The op amp gain stage probably makes it super inexpensive to build and still have reasonable distortion, but I haven't seen them used in Stax amps outside of servos before. Make sure that it's up to driving the tube you use. The 6SN7 isn't a great choice here. It has a max plate...- PretentiousFood

Review: Fischer Audio's DBA-02
Nah, they were in their carrying pouch and fell out of my pocket while I was crossing the street. Ironically enough a few months the cable got hard and started cracking, so I ended up replacing with another iem.- PretentiousFood

The Single Power ES-1/2 repair and restoration thread
That would make a killer office setup! How small can you get the power supply? I got the 2u chassis just to fit the transformer and cap bank, but I'm guessing it'll be tiiiny and run way cooler if you forgo the ccs and EL34s.- PretentiousFood

The Single Power ES-1/2 repair and restoration thread
I don't want to speak on anyone else's behalf but I'm guessing he likes it sounds ~fabulous~ once it's properly built. I've never heard a BHSE, but I just finished up my own variation on the ES-X and t's a huge step up from the SRD-7 and SRM-1 mk2. I also got to try it with the SR-007, and...- PretentiousFood

I've been to Marc too when I got my customs, and his impressions were excellent. I'd definitely go back if ever I got customs again. Almost done :)
