Late reply, don't know if you've made a purchase. That said: Lyr and run like a scalded dog! I have 702 Annies' driven by Lyr. Good stuff (IMHO).- PassiveO

Same here... I even took pains to rip the kids' music to .m4a hoping they would 'get' it. No dice. People laugh when hearing I have 30K invested in audio. Of course, new your NWO was about 1/3 of my total investment, but I'm not laughing.- PassiveO

Schiit Owners Unite
If you buy a Valhalla (I own a Lyr) the I'd highly recommend the Bifrost Uber; I'd recommend it unconditionally with any headphone amp (realizing the Woo7 has an integrated DAC). I am a DAC veteran, and have owned many, both low and high cost. The Bifrost is the best per dollar piece of kit...- PassiveO

Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers
Quote: No problem on the sig. Wow, nice DAC inventory there! The DAC60 is great with good tubes. I ran the National 6922s in it for quite a while, but give a slight edge to the Voskhods in the DAC. My DAC60 started life as a GR-Research modified unit, which replaced the output...- PassiveO

"Thanks! My source (APL NWO DAC) is quite a bit different then the Bifrost, so my impressions may differ from others here. What DAC are you using? Edited by rb2013 - Yesterday at 5:01 pm" I have a Bifrost Uber and a Lite DAC60. The DAC60 has 6DJ8 tube outputs and uses a DF1704 and PCM1704...- PassiveO

Recmmended headset for a Asus Xonar Essence STX
I have an STX and the ATH-AD700s and think this is a very good combo. I recently moved to Schitt setup with AKG 702s. I've tried the 702s with the STX and they outperform the AD700s. However, the 702s sound much better with the Sciit gear while the AD700s sound nearly the same. If I were you...- PassiveO

Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers
Well, time to officially share my impressions of four different tubes in the Lyr. Just so everyone knows where I am coming from: I listen to most music genres on a regular basis, with those being pop, hard rock, classical (many different genres), hip-hop, reggae, folk, bluegrass, country...- PassiveO

AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition
Quote: Cool avatar. While I don't know if you have weird ears or not, this I know: The bass response of the Annies vs chinese K702s is vastly different (unlikely just pads). The Annies definitely have better impact; to the point of obscuring the lower midrange. On another note...- PassiveO

Schiit Lyr Tube Rollers
Dude, you are on a roll. We know the Amperex ECC88s are likely to be good. The 12AT7s are a good find too. They are the same family as 12AU7, 12AV7,12AY7, 5751, 12AX7. The 12AT7 is the mid gain of the bunch often found in tube phono preamps, guitar amps, etc.- PassiveO

Sounds like you struck gold! https://www.tubeworld.com/7308.htm#7308siemens That will be a Siemens tube. Find another one and sell me the pair. The E188CC is a high-specd 6DJ8 type; a standard, matched triodes and other stuff. I am sure we'd all be interested to hear what else you find.- PassiveO

AKG K702 Impressions.
No need to wait 100 hours. The Annies smoke the chinese production 702s. The same differences apply. I.E. Annies have slightly less air, which leads to perception of a slightly smaller soundstage. Reports tie this to the pads, which on the 702s are angled. Folks say the Annies are also 'warmer'...- PassiveO

AKG K702 Impressions.
Wow! Have the Annies on my head at work (no tunes here) and they are MUCH, MUCH more comfortable. The 702s I have are large, but fit very tight across the top of the head. The Annies are not tight, presumably because the elastic is of lower tensile. The headband is also narrower. They...- PassiveO

AKG K702 Impressions.
Hello Fellow 702 Owners, The purpose of this post is to describe a quandary with the K702s. The post will be longer than some. First, about me, rest assured I am not an audio snob: I am a 'big rig' refugee, having some $14K or so invested in speakers (VMPS RM30s, Von Schweikert...- PassiveO

Poor Man's Hobby
Well, I have some pretty decent stereo equipment, and recently decided to check out headphones; on the CHEEEP: Xonar STX and ATH-AD700 = $280.00 delivered. Opamps = I had a bunch laying around from the "old" days when I had opamp based DACs. I am pretty impressed so far, the setup...- PassiveO

For Uers of the Xonar STX-ST and ATH-AD700
Yes, exactly what I was looking for, thanks. LOL, there isn't much curve to that impedance curve (graph). I ran my AD700s off my onboard sound for a few days (AD HD chip) and find that they STX is way better. This may be attributable to the DAC and analog section, I suppose.- PassiveO

First Time Headphone Buyer
I would humbly suggest the ATH-AD700s available for $100 shipped from many sources. I will qualify this suggestion by saying that I have very little experience with headphones, but do own a pair of AD700s. I have been a consumer of "high-end stereo" equipment for 10 years, and know what...- PassiveO
