Nice! Thank you Carbonboy. I like the grado retro look so this works for me. Maybe a laser cutter could add the Grado Hemp Name. Blank canvas.- hjteq

DAC/AMP for AudioEngine A5
I vote for the A5's. I think that starting off with the better set of speakers would be the route that I would take in your position.- hjteq

Review by 'hjteq' on item 'Grado SR325is Headphones'
Comfort-I adjusted the headband so for over head headphone they are fine. I've even worn them to sleep. Source-Using the VDAC VCAN combo right now an I've found my sweet spot. Longevity/durability - I know years down the line I will get the RSis or something like it but I don't...- hjteq

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones
I love my headphones they help me focus and escape. but the reason that I believe others don't value them as much as we do is because they are reclusive in nature. you can't do this as a social activity and doesn't get you a woman's attention. at least that is what I think... Social status is...- hjteq

Which DAC choose ?
Okay, I wasn't impressed once I brought the new rig home (V-Dac to V-Can to Grado SR325is). It seemed to have too strong of a bass emphasis, to the point of clipping, to say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. I knew that it wasn't the volume because it happened at all levels...- hjteq

The BEST-LOOKING Headphones
those hp 1000's have my vote by a small margin over the yamaha. might be a tie...depends on the person. personally I'd wear the yamaha but a more styling person would look better with the grado's. my style is colder/cooler/sterile so I'd wear the yamaha. Yamaha = silver Audi R8 Grado...- hjteq

Speaker positioning tips (pic)
The center of the speaker is right at ear height and the speakers are 5'-0" apart behind the laptop. this worked for me although it isn't my current setup due to space restriction. http://www.loopinsight.com/2011/03/22/review-audioengine-a5-s8-combination-speaker-system/ " Speaker... -
Speaker positioning tips (pic)
When I hear these they disappear. The image is clear and when I close my eyes and have the right music its like it is happening live. Guitars, Drums and vocalist all have their place around me on the stage. My speaker placement is ideal as the form a small equilateral triangle. to me this... -

DAC/AMP for AudioEngine A5
might I suggest that you run them out of the laptop? I have an old MacBook Pro and I am constantly surprised by the level of sound these speakers put out. If not I heard the Pro-ject usb box and found it pretty sweet http://www.sumikoaudio.net/project/products/project_design_boxes.htm- hjteq
