I had the same hiss in when I plugged in the aux cord in my car. Mine went away when I turned off the UHQ upscaler.

I forgot about those commercials, always got a chuckle out of them. I'm not really an on-ear guy either but they sound pretty good and the build quality seems to be up to par.
