Best Smartphone for audiophile
I haven't tried the Optimus G so can't comment on how the two phones compare, but I don't recommend the 930 in terms of music playback anyways. And one thing I forgot to mention is the limited format supported by windows phone(no FLAC!)(not sure if there's a workaround). And you mentioned...- PeterPenHK

Best Smartphone for audiophile
Lumia 930's sound is terrible..... Noise floor is very high, so with sensitive IEMs (mine is UMPRO30) it lacks of detail and refinement. And the driving power is limited, the sound lacks of dynamic with headphones (T5p and RS1i). And so far none of the music player app I tried is as...- PeterPenHK

LG G5, Possible DAC or Camera modules. Audiophiles enjoy ?
Thanks for sharing and well done What Hi-Fi! So it's decent sounding, and according to the reviewer G5 drives the headphone well, which is a great news since smartphone playback quality depends on amplification, more so than on DAC. What's left is a price. And I wonder if the...- PeterPenHK

LG G5, Possible DAC or Camera modules. Audiophiles enjoy ?
let's assume the B&O module sounds better than the V10 or any smartphone in the market, how much are you willing to pay for that? for me, maximum usd$200- PeterPenHK

LG G5, Possible DAC or Camera modules. Audiophiles enjoy ?
i think how LG integrates the add-on modules is the key to the success of G5, can't imagine in the era of slim and light design that people will like the bulkiness brought by modular design. Unless it's something like AM2 by FiiO that doesn't take up any internal volume, but then why not making...- PeterPenHK

seeking for advice, On flight headphones, IEM vs Acitive noise cancelling
Hi there, I travel between London and Hong Kong quite frequently, and currently, I'm using Monster Turbine Copper with the RSA predator and it's a good combo so far. I used to be such an enthusiast that wanted no compromise on sound quality, so had never considered headphones with active...- PeterPenHK

Android phones and USB DACs
Quote: agree with your point that 24 bit files should be avoided, just counldnt bother to do the pre-convertion... BTW any recommendation of format converter for Windows?? about the battery issue, if you've read through this thread you'd notice it's more about SQ instead of...- PeterPenHK

Android phones and USB DACs
Thanks! BTW, Ray has replied me that if the usb port of S3 has a power of 100mW, the DAC section will use all of them... So I think 2 options are available: 1. You do care about portability and sound quality, then a self-powered amp/DAC combo will be a good balance 2. Sound quality...- PeterPenHK

Android phones and USB DACs
3 hours has passed, and here is my report about the battery life: My SIII/Predator combo had been playing music from 13:05 to 16:05, the music files are FLAC, 24bits 44.1 kHz which i think the Neutron player has automatically resampled them to 16 bit 44.1 kHz. My phone is in 2G mode, with...- PeterPenHK

Android phones and USB DACs
Ray has replied me: "The DAC is powered by the USB 5 volts battery. So I won't recommend it with the phone as it will drain the power fast out of your battery." Actually I don't fully understand his reply, is there a standard for the current of the usb port so we can find the...- PeterPenHK
