Schiit Lyr - The tube rolling thread

The Amperex Orange Globes meet most of your criteria, but I'm not sure if they do so exactly.  Perhaps other members can confirm.     They are holographic, but I am not sure if this translates to opening up the soundstage.   They are very transparent, however, I do not think they...

The Audeze LCD-2 Ortho thread (New)

I hear sharp Ssssss's in "Don't know why" in my srh840s, which are pretty good about sibilance.  Also tending to agree it's not the LCD-2's shortcoming here...

***Earbud Guide - 22 Earbuds compared***

Very glad this thread exists.  I've sorely needed a good pair of earbuds.   I just ordered the PAA1-Pro.  Currently I use the DBA02 at work, but its isolation is a problem.  Will post thoughts when I get these.

New Schiit Lyr: Hybrid 6W Headphone Amp. Yes. Six. Watts. RMS.

I just got my Genalex tubes today, and they are noisy!  One of them has a very loud hum while the other is more tolerable.  Both are noticeably noisier than the stock JJ's (one of which is completely quiet).  I will see what I can do about RMAing the Genalexes.   In any case, the stock tubes...

    Schiit Lyr Shipping! Impressions?

MLE,   I'm glad you're enjoying the Lyr's strong suits immediately.  I found the Lyr a little disappointing the first day, but after leaving it running for 20 hours (a night's sleep + a day's work), I came back to an improved amp.  The Lyr AND its tubes benefit dramatically from the initial...

    Schiit Lyr Shipping! Impressions?

I hope there's more tube rolling discussion forthcoming!   I just ordered the Genalex based on people's feedback here.  This is my first tube amp, and the Lyr already sounds so good with the JJs that I'm curious how the sound will change (for better or for worse) upon tube rolling.  Would...

Schiit Lyr Just Showed Up, Thought Ide Post A Couple Pics

Sampson,   Looks like a sweet setup!  I appreciated how well the Lyr was packaged... everything was so snug and secure... although it probably didn't look like appreciation when I ripped through the packaging to get the thing set up.   I wish you many hours of enjoyment with this and the...

    Schiit Lyr Shipping! Impressions?

My hum is fixed!   I had my schiit connected to the same surge protector as my computer.  As soon as I plugged the Lyr into a its own jack, the hum disappeared, and it is virtually silent (on SR225 and SRH840, both sensitive headphones).   However, I identified one of my JJ tubes is...

Duckman,   Are you able to hear the hum with the LCD-2, or just your more sensitive HPs?   Quote:

    Schiit Lyr Shipping! Impressions?

Todd,   I get the same buzz as you, but only with my more sensitive headphones.  The Grado SR225 and Shure 840 get a faint buzz, even when the volume is all the way down.  The HE-5 gets no buzz.   Since I only listen to the HE-5 these days, I don't really mind.

Kremer930,   Is there any chance you could comment on how the Lyr pairs with your HE-6, specifically how it compares with what you were using before to amp it?   Edit: I wasn't sure if you were using the Darkvoice to amp the HE-6 before..

HiFiman HE-5LE headphones good for Hard Rock/ Metal?

I moved from the SR225 to the HE-5 for rock, and it's great.

    Schiit Lyr Shipping! Impressions?

I received mine on Thursday but wasn't able to listen to it until now.  There's been a lot of talk about how great the Lyr is with the LCD-2, which I don't doubt, but few have commented on its synergy with the HE-5 (et al).  With my HiFiMan pair, the Schiit Lyr is fantastic.   My only other...

    Schiit Lyr Shipping! Impressions?

@ visualguy   You missed my point.  I'm not a physicist, but what I meant was that the implementation of the watts as a part of the whole (whole being the amp) should have a noticeable impact on the headphone experience at a constant volume.  Have you heard the HE-6 out of a PC-headphone...

    Schiit Lyr Shipping! Impressions?

Quote: IMO, it's not just about loudness.  Take for example my Grado SR225.  They are easily driven to loud volumes, with or without an amp (they only need a few mw to get very loud).  When I first added a CKKIII to my PC, of course the SR225 was able to reach higher volumes, but was...

New Schiit Lyr: Hybrid 6W Headphone Amp. Yes. Six. Watts. RMS.

Believe me, the wait is more agonizing for people who are actually waiting for theirs. You can probably expect initial impressions 3/2 or 3/3.  Mine is expected 3/3, but shipping may be faster for those who aren't on the east coast (Schiit ships from CA).

    HiFiMan HE-X Break-in Changes?

I believe the HE5's are able to handle most non-gigawatt speaker amps without the need of an impedance matcher :)  But you may want to specify the output of your speaker taps here to be sure.   Also, the volume alone isn't an indication of an amp's capability (you can get decent listening...

    HiFiMan HE-X Break-in Changes?

Hi gridlock,   My HE-5 did not change much over the course of hundreds of hours.  As for the bass, I can think of 2 things:   1) The bass is more than you're used to, or, more likely,   2) The M-Stage is not giving enough current for the HE-5LE.  I understand the M-Stage is a very...

    Upgrade to M50?

You may want to list your music preferences and your budget.   Does it have to be a full-sized headphone?  You can find some good alternatives in the portable headphone section (e.g. dba-02 fits your criteria).
