I've used my 271's with an iPod Nano. It's not perfect but it works reasonably well. I wouldn't want to carry the 271's around with me though. I've also used the 271's with an iPhone 2G and iPhone 3GS with comparable results.

I've had my RP6's for a year or two now and I have been very pleased with them. It never hurts to listen to a few different things before you buy but the KRK's are certainly a great option to look into.

I'm another recent convert to Foobar. It makes you want to hit your head against the wall at first but if you give it a little time you are glad that you did.

I'm using a Cmoy as a temporary solution until I can find something better in the used forums. It seems to be doing a fine job. It is certainly miles better than my iPhone 3Gs. I don't plan on using it forever but there's nothing wrong with it.

Somewhere along the way the digital must be converted to analogue. To use your digital out you most likely need a DAC (Digital to Analogue Converter). Rather than say more I will suggest that you do a search for info about DAC's since nearly every question has been asked before.
