Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

So you use them with the XM5s ? Here is a pretty fascinating review comparing eartips on the XM5s : and Pretty big difference between the foam and hybrid tips that come with the XM5. He had another review where the poor durability of the foam eartips was mentioned but I can't locate it right...

Any regular users of the WF-1000XM5 here ? How durable are the foam tips ? Some reviewers think they might not last more than a month of heavy use, which seems short. And replacing them with silicone tips apparently reduces isolation a lot.

ok, is there an actual wind reduction setting (I think the MTW3 have one ?) or they just do a good job passively ? Their shape and design reminds me a bit of the Havit G1...that were also good with (passive) wind reduction.

Thanks, so you're saying they don't pick up any wind noise at all when riding a bike ? That's quite a feat ! Do they provide good passive isolation ? Any thump when running ?

What Adidas model are you referring to ? Wind noise on a bike (or a scooter) is indeed a problem that I've never really been able to solve.

I'm sending back the Bose QC Ultra, the right earbud has become finicky when charging for some reason and while they're probably the best earbuds so far for ANC, overall isolation is still not "sufficient" for my needs (long train trips with sometimes ridiculously noisy people around me, kids...

I've read mixed reviews of the v3 but I've been happily using v2 for a couple of years now, very versatile, and a very decent ANC (much better than the Soundcore Liberty 4 I briefly tried after reading some very positive feedback here). I also have the Free Pro 2 for some extra passive...

Had a chance to compare the QC Ultra and Jabra 10s on a few long distance train rides and there's really no contest, the QC Ultra make a difference, granted it's not huge but when you need isolation every little bit counts. It's the higher pitched noises that the Jabra 10 doesn't filter out as...

So I've taken a couple of trips with the QC Ultras and comparing them to the Jabra 10s and Earfun Free Pro 2. So yes, the Ultras have a slight edge in terms of overall isolation when riding on a train. Not really sure it's the ANC as the ANC on the Jabras is really good but the semi-open design...

Would the app still work? Doesn't seem to be available on Google Play, maybe an old apk can be found. Not sure what changed between the Zik 1/2/3?

I've always been a sucker for "spatial audio" and spent countless hours getting a hold of old DTS CDs, Quad conversions, etc...but the "spatial audio" with headphones, and even more so earbuds, is completely lost on me. I've now tried it with standard headphones/earbuds with the Atmos mixes of...

I doubt any current system can do better in terms of isolation, now the comfort and sound signature of the ER4s that's something else ;-) Clearly that's not a good setup for a short tube ride but well worth it for a long train trip or flight. Actually for a flight ANC will probably be enough...

You could also use some cheap closed cans with large ear cups above your MTW3s, that will beat any standalone device out there. I've recently been using my QC25 like that but the ear cups are a tad smal.

Got a hold of the QC Ultra, will give them a try in public transport tomorrow, tube and train. I'll have the Jabra 10 too and I'm expecting the QC will be a lot better as I've been pretty disappointed in the Jabra 10s when it comes to overall isolation. On train trips I've tried a QC20+QC25...

Thanks for the feedback. Good to hear that the Ultras offer some improvements. I've seen claims on comments in YT videos that they were...worse for ANC and the guy thought it might be due to the new codec... Feel somewhat tempted now ;-)

I like his reviews for the samples, the SQ of the earbuds sounds really bad here, can't be that IRL surely ? His "dummy head" probably gives better results for headphones than for earbuds.

ok, actually I was thinking of an earbud vs cans comparison. I did read that ANC was identical between the QCII and QC Ultra buds. It sounds like you still have the QCII earbuds ? I remember being pretty impressed by the ANC of the QCII last year for "static noise" (jet engines) but was...

Thanks for the link and feedback. Yes I can imagine that IA would come into its own with cans that "expand" the "sound stage" beyond the ear canals. Had you been able to run some ANC comparisons before returning the earbuds ? I still have my QC25 (and the QC20 "buds"!) and find that they have...

Any luck since you posted this ? Do you hear any difference with the QCII in terms of ANC ? What's that "alternate fit kit rings and tips" for the QCII ?

The Jabras are almost too small as they don't "fill" the concha of normal sized ears like the 65Ts or the Echo Buds do for instance. Filling the concha has the advantage of more stability and better passive isolation.

Yes the Rtings review implies that the Jabra 10 do well with Atmos streaming content but I honestly don't hear any difference compared with other earbuds. Anyway Atmos is going to be a "gimmick" without at least a 5.1 setup with separate speakers. I've read that some virtual systems by Sony do a...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

So I pulled out my old Echo Buds v1 and...they provide better isolation (mostly passive, ANR is very "weaksauce") than the Jabra 10 ! I guess that takes care of my questions about keeping them or not. Sure they're convenient with easy multi-pairing and good quality calls but I rarely use earbuds...

So I received the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC, firmware update done and I'm...very disappointed ! The ANC is very "weak sauce", the "wind" setting not effective when riding a bike, and TBH it's sometimes hard to tell what mode you're in ANC/OFF/Hear-Through ! In fact in some environments HT Almost...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I'll receive mine tomorrow and I'm not sure if you mean "overall isolation" by "ANC", so "passive"+"ANC", but that's what really matters and while ANC can be great and have a "wow" factor, like the first Airpod Pros (haven't tried the 2), or the QCII or even on the Jabra 10s, when it's turned...
