    Recable/Woody D2000 or Step up to D5000/D7000?

I'd go with aftermarket cups just for the looks. I've never heard a Denon though, so I have not comments on the sound.

With "these" attributes, how does Grado have a fanbase ?

Soliciting headphone suggestions - Grado vs Senn vs Denon

For rock and classical, I doubt you'll beat a grado.

    Settlers of Catan

Great game. But not as good as Carcassone. Carcassone has pretty much no setup time, and is just as easy to learn, but has a lot more in depth strategy. It also plays very quickly.

    New Headphone Suggestions

FWIR, Denon d2000s would be great. They are supposed to be relatively easy to drive, very comfortable for long listening sessions, and have good bass, which, IMO, is a must for movies.

Headphone suggestion for a new guy

The PROline series is intended to be more sonically accurate. I would consider them less specialized headphones. They do ok with classical, jazz, country, etc., but not as well with electronic music. As far as the technical differences, I don't remember.

    AD700 midrange

The AD700 has fine mids. I've always heard it has weak bass, and now weak mids as well? And yet the AD700 isn't bright at all... I don't understand how that works. IMO, the AD700s are just a little bit lacking in punch, a bit laid back, if you will. No amp I've heard solves the problem though.

    Upgrade from SR60i

You left out something important. What kind of music are you listening to? Unless you already have particularly brand biases, that's probably the biggest factor in choosing a pair of headphones in any given price range.

Headphone suggestion for a new guy

For trance and metal, I'd say Ultrasones can't be beat. I have not heard any of the Ultrasones in your price range, but if the HIFI550 and 580 are anything like the HiFi 780, you will not be dissapointed. Other closed headphone (Denon, Beyer Dynamics), don't have quite the speed of the...

Sansa clip sounds just as good as Essence STX!? I feel like im going crazy!

You do have the STX off the 5.1 surround sound simulation mode that is the default?

The future of "headphones": direct neural signal injection

I'm sure it could be done. But I wouldn't be comfortable with anything tampering directly with my nerves. Not to mention the fact that we feel music, highs as well as lows, besides just hearing it.

I like how lucky's arguments consist entirely of attacking epicfailman's personal listening experience rather than addressing the real issue at hand, which is whether or not AKG701s sound like AKG701s when heard through a laptop. I like it almost as much as I like how epicfailman thinks an...
