    Meridian Explorer² Impressions Thread

Depending on where you are and its intended purpose you might want to look at the director given its recent price halving on Amazon and other sites. I haven't heard the first explorer though I am tempted given its price second hand. If you like the headphone stage of your amp then just make do...

    Meridian Explorer² Impressions Thread

This little box of tricks is bleedin incredible!  I have 2 pairs of 5'ks and their Sooloos kit so I am very familiar with their products, up to now for my headphone listening I have always used other products with my 325i's and have auditioned dozens of DAC's, most costing many many times what I...

Trouble with headphones with Beresford 7520

I have a 7520 and would recommend swapping out the opamps which are socketed for easy rolling to something like the LM4562's or the THS4032CD's which IMHO sound awesome. As the opamps are fairly cheap this makes it a great way to get the 'sound' you want.

    Beresford Mark 4 DAC/headphone amp

If you are just interested in the sound above all else the Beresford units are fantastic value for money, if you can stretch to £180 for the 7520 then go for it. I have just replaced the opamps (which are socketed for easy swapping) with the THS4032CD's from Texas Instruments and the result is...

Need help with purchase of gaming head-fi

I use an X-FI card for game processing hooked up to a Beresford TC-7520 with Grado SR80's as my cans, perfect in a quiet environment. X-FI's CMSS processing is damn good for the money, the Xonar has a bit of an edge with it's Dolby Headphone processing but I personally don't think it is worth...

Can you enjoy lossy (compressed) music through your favorite headphones?

I feel it depends on the music but I am usually happy listening to anything above 256, below that I can hear too many artifacts in the music, especially on live stuff. Modern mastering techniques now try to compensate on mp3 compression by upping the levels, just purchased a modern cheap n...

Which members know what they are talking about

In my experience your wallet will largely dictate what range of goods you have access to, knowing who to trust though on audio issues is difficult as everyones tastes differ, some like their audio ultra detailed, warts and all, others like their music to sound nothing like it did when it was...

DAC -- decision nearly made (well, thought it was)

The DacMagic is not actually a bad dac and is indeed very good, the differences between the 7520 and the DacMagic are fairly subtle, the big difference is the price and the inclusion of what I consider to be a very good headphone amp and like most mention it punches well above its weight. If...

In the interest of reaching a fair decision and having a balanced discussion I find it bizarre that the admins here have deleted polite constructive posts from members looking to find out what happened!

    Cambridge DACMagic, anyone?

The caps are the only components that need to settle down as their inherent design requires a chemical process. Can take a while for the sound to settle.

    Creative X-Fi + HD600 + Nothing. Need Amp?

I have both the Beresford 7510 and the 7520, the comparison only relates to the 7510 though as the 7520 must have a better input / jitter correction facility and both the pc and DVD sound about the same, in fact with the 7520 the PC probably has the edge.

Why you all can't just concentrate on the music I do not know, at the end of the day ignoring all the crap and rumours surrounding these dacs they still sound damn good for what they cost. I own the 7510 6:4 and the 7520, headphone usage prompted me to give them a try and I am glad I did. The...

    Creative X-Fi + HD600 + Nothing. Need Amp?

If your using an X-FI card I can say that from experience you would be better off using the digital output into a better dac (Beresford or Cambridge) and then getting a headphone amp, I have the Beresford and use its built in headphone amp which is a big improvement over the analog output of the...
