I found the bass improved with a few 10's of hours of burn-in. A few people had that impression, as I recall. - j Quote: Originally Posted by miloxo Received the Rain's today and I'm impressed. For music, I like these just as much as the ATH-AD700s! I was afraid these had too...- jdc65

It's not clear to me that the E1 is really an 'amp' at all (vs. line out w/ volume control). In other words, is full volume exactly the same as line out? If anyone knows, I'd be curious.- jdc65

Comply Tx400. Rumor has it the next thinksounds will be called "Dewy mist on a bright Scottish morning" I'm curious if other people will like these the way I do. I can see thinksound getting a dedicated following of people attracted to the sound sig. Or maybe everyone will think I'm just...- jdc65

To my ears the Rains are a special phone. I had the perception that the bass rounded out just a bit after a few more hours, I think they are hitting bass notes perfectly per neutral. I'll skip the tech talk - Rains, to me, have the Secret Sauce right. They are stealthy tho. It took many hours in...- jdc65

Hey JxK Man you're asking the tough questions! I think the Rain is a treble-complete phone, but I would not use the word 'sparkle', because that sounds a little in the direction of harshness, and avoiding harshness is some kind of Prime Directive with thinksound. But the treble frequency...- jdc65

Thanks for reminding me - I did try that, and I found Rain to be responsive to EQ. It did put out more bass without distortion. I used the basic EQ in iTunes. It didn't turn into Thunder, of course. BTW my testing was with tx400 tips (including the fx500), through the iBasso D3 connected via...- jdc65

I've played music through my newer, non-confiscated Rains for about a day now. Not that much burn in, but I can make a few comments on Rain v. Thunder. Rain is the neutral phone of the two, and differences fall pretty much along party lines between 'neutral' and 'bass-heavy'. Bass in the Rain...- jdc65

Would a volume attenuator hurt sound quality?
If you happen to use an iPod, the fiio E1 might be interesting. I provides volume controlled access to the LOD. + better sound quality, straight from LOD + volume control, play pause, track skip forward/back + works on all iPod models - ipod only - cable is too long, really - volume...- jdc65

thinksound has been putting out coupon codes from day 1. I think this is just their biz plan. There is steep competition in the $50 - $100 headphone market, getting noticed is hard.- jdc65
