Not quite. Central Limit Theorem implies that the more the components, the higher the chance that the differences caused by individual device tolerances and variances will cancel out. ;)

Are they planar magnetic, or dynamic the HE-300?

Both are decent. But then again, both are inferior to high quality open headphones.   Honestly, I just cannot describe the soundstage like some as "sound stage is oval, not too deep forward, but wide on the sides" etc. What you can get out of me a singe value in coarse resolution, like "Nope...

Very difficult to compare. One is an open IEM, the other is a full size closed headphone. I don't think anybody would confuse the sound of an IEM with the sound of a full sized earphone. If I try, I'd say that I enjoy the frequency response of the FX850 better. Less treble energy. Bass quality...

When I tried the FX850, it sounded so good that I initially thought I wasted $$$ on the TH900's. Then I went ahead and compared them on after the other. Well, there's no comparison. At that price and size difference, I don't expect to. TH900's are a "whole 'nother level". Nevertheless, FX850...

I like them a lot. All the detail and enjoyment is there without too much emphasis on treble. I don't mean that the treble is recessed, unlike the LCD-2's. Bass is phenomenal. Deep, textured. Way ahead of even T-Peos H300 IMHO, not in quantity (about equal) but in texture and detail. 

It arrived today. Weird huh? It was held in customs for over a week... Anyhow, I still think it was worth the $90+ difference from Amazon.

Well, at this point it's $285 (CD Japan) vs. $375 (sold by Amazon). The difference is enough to make you think.

Got the tracking number just an hour ago. Weird. It appears that you have to be patient, and willing to give it all up, in order to deserve the FX850, cheaply that is. :)

Nothing yet. Asked them to cancel the order if not shipped in two days. Customer service keeps saying "We still haven't received any response from the online shop you requested us to order it from." I don't understand this. I just ordered it from their website. I didn't request them to do...

I don't think the magister is planar magnetic though. It's dynamic no?
