I'd say that the AD has a wider soundstage over the ER4S. I believe it has better imaging too.   I never heard the MD, I'm speculating that the AD has better bass than the ER4S from memory.

I don't feel qualified to answer that question since I no longer own the Alpha Dogs and ER-4S. However, I'll just say that the Alpha Dogs has more tactile bass from being an over ear headphone but the ER-4S might have better speed and neutral tonality.   The worthiness of the extra $300 will...

Did you have an ER4-PT and bought the S cable adapter? You converted your ER4-PT into an ER4S which has less volume sensitivity and is expected.
