I think you should go for a dac/amp. For £300 you can pick up an Audio Gd FUN (AmpCity price). The FUN in my opinion (and most people who have reviewed it agree :D) has a better built-in DAC then the Cambridge Audio DacMagic.   Check out some of the reviews for it first...

It does look like a real contender in my opinion. I haven't had a chance to listen to them yet but am looking forwards to doing so soon :D.

Try going for an amp/dac rather then standalone units. At that price range you will get better value for money with an amp/dac hybrid. A good choice for a low budget will be the Head Direct HiFiMan EF2 which is available for  around £170 which is about $260 including shipping, taxes etc. The EF2...
