Upgrading DAC, headphones, and speakers
Loving it! I don't seem to experience any of that harshness/fatiguing people warned me about.- whatsinaname

Upgrading DAC, headphones, and speakers
Just got my Yamaha HS50Ms. The manual says the TRS connector accepts balanced and unbalanced inputs. There will be no problems with the 6db drop that JRG1990 talked about. (I was a bit worried about that initially. I bought them without knowledge of the unbalanced-to-balanced issue. The Yamaha...- whatsinaname

I tried vinyl, but I can't see the hype.
One of the main reasons I got vinyl was for the large album art. (I think I am half seriosu here). I like the convenience of music downloads but I don't get a physical product with iTunes/Amazon tracks. For a few dollars more, I get the LP and a free code to download the MP3s. Another reason to...- whatsinaname

Upgrading DAC, headphones, and speakers
Quote: My current speakers are basic 2.1s (The Swan M10s) running out of my on-board sound card. The uDAC was not a huge improvement over the on-board sound, but that needs to be qualified by the fact that the speakers I am using are not that great and the on-board sound chip I have is...- whatsinaname

Upgrading DAC, headphones, and speakers
I am going the exact same route you are. I bought a uDAC 2 and went to GuitarCenter (I guess you don't have this option). Tested out a bunch of monitors. I am mostly going with the Yamaha HS50Ms. I did like the 3031a, but they are a bit larger than what I wanted and I preferred the Mids/Highs of...- whatsinaname

Best DAC under $100
One option you can look at is the Creative X-Fi HD USB. It has an optical in. ~90$ If you go the USB route, you could get the uDAC2. I am just about to order the uDAC2 for 109$ new. Someone posted the deal on Head-Fi a few weeks back and it is still active. www.crutchfield.com and use...- whatsinaname

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: NEW Nuforce uDAC-2 with 24/96 - USB DAC AMP with line out and S/PDIF out
Quote: Ok, that was what I needed to know. Thanks. The apple remote app just controls foobar's volume slider (and gives me access to foobar's library). Perfect for a day spent in bed just listening to music.- whatsinaname

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: NEW Nuforce uDAC-2 with 24/96 - USB DAC AMP with line out and S/PDIF out
Quote: I plan to keep Win 7 / foobar volume at 100%, but at times I use the Apple Remote app to set volume when I am away from my desk. Just wanted to make sure I would still be able to do that. So the lack of volume control from Win 7 was for the uDAC1?- whatsinaname

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: NEW Nuforce uDAC-2 with 24/96 - USB DAC AMP with line out and S/PDIF out
I understand that the Windows Volume control won't work with the uDAC 2. Will foobars volume slider still work? I guess I will also lose the Windows 7 feature of individual applcations volume control?- whatsinaname

Creative X-FI HD USB revealed
I have been running a pair of Swans M10 out of my on-board sound card (Realtek ALC889A). Am thinking of moving to a DAC + HS50M active monitors. How would the x-fi HD USB compare to something like the NuForce uDAC 2 in my situation? (The phono pre-amp in the x-fi HD is tempting though.)...- whatsinaname
