    headphone annoyances

I just discovered something about my senn580's. I just got a corda HA-2, so I was listening for relatively long periods of time. After a couple days, it got to the point where my left ear hurt whenever there was a "bright" sound, plus I would get a slight headache at just the thought of putting...

    Connecticut Area Mini-Meet Interest Check

Is there anybody going to this meet from the Boston area? It seems as though everybody attending is from close to connecticut, so my chances of finding a ride are pretty small. If I've overlooked anybody, please let me know so that I could try to arrange a ride. Otherwise, I'm going to have to...

Sonica!!! Well there goes my life...

The sound card on Inspiron laptops is nothing to write home about. For me, the Sonica was a huge improvement. So much so that upgrading amps from a porta corda to an HA-2 made an immediate difference (but then, I'm not planning on using my laptop as my main source). From looking around on the...

    Connecticut Area Mini-Meet Interest Check

I'm interested in going to the meet. However, I don't have transportation. I'm going to check around and see if I can find a ride. Stuff I'm able to bring: Corda HA-2 (new, will hopefully burn-in by then), m-audio sonica + dell laptop, sony d-120 pcdp. Senn HD580, stock. I may get a better...

Boston meet - lets start planning ...

I'd like to come. I think I'm available almost every weekend in the near future. By the end of February, I'll have a new Corda HA-2 (should be burned-in by then), Senn HD580, Sony d-120 pcdp, and M-audio sonica. I was hoping that I'd be able to listen to the HA-2 with some different CD players.

    Anyone using different shells?

I've used litestep for about 4 years now. I use it mostly because it has some themes that I like (very simple and out-of-the-way), although there are others that are better performance-wise (I think). I guess that once I found an interface I liked, I stuck with it, but there's an incredible...

    sci-fi/fantasy books

Once I made it through David Eddings' books, I pretty much stopped reading epic fantasies, until I found Martin. Now I, too, am waiting for his latest book. I still read a lot of sci-fi, though. I like Asimov's Foundation series, and I just finished reading _To Say Nothing of the Dog_ by...

POLL! Coke or Pepsi? Any others?

Pepsi. Drinking coke is like drinking bubbles. But it's really moot, since nothing beats a good cream soda (... /me in the process of checking out the rootbeer/cream soda thread). Since I am loathe to dredge up an old thread, may I ask here if anybody's had Mad River cream soda? I liked it a...

    Any anime/jp pop music fans?

I loved Haibane Renmei! Sometimes just listening to the music makes me feel sad. I do have a small collection of OST's and OP and ED, they're nice to listen to while working or falling asleep. At the very least, I find it a refreshing change from the current state of American pop music (for now).

    Height, and weight?

Allow me to help normalize the curve. Age: 22 Height: 5'7" wt: 135 And I do exercise a lot in the time that I'm not listening to headphones (one of the few sports that my body is ideal for: road cycling!):P

    any violinists here?

It would probably be good to mention the last couple of pieces you played. Otherwise you're going to get a crazy range of suggestions (skillwize). If you're only playing solo, Bachs' Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin should be pretty satisfying. I've also played some of the solo violin...

    Your favorite instruments

fiddler, I'm a violinist, but I almost prefer viola, especially in chamber music. There's nothing quite like playing viola in a string quartet. Walther

    Clarinet music

Hello, Some good places to start: Brahms clarinet sonatas (1 and 2) Brahms clarinet quintet Mozart clarinet quintet Mozart clarinet concerto Weber clarinet concerto and concertino These are very standard repertoire, so there are many artists who have recorded these pieces. Some that I...

If it hasn't already been mentioned, fanfare for the common man (Copeland) might be considered heroic.

    classical albums

Hello all, Just found this forum, and thought I'd chip in my two cents. It's always nice to find people who love listening to music. I'd have to second Shostakovich's 5th symphony. I also enjoy Martha Argerich's version of the schumann piano concerto. Of course, there's so much music...
