My final setup for my HE-400: Brainwavz HM5 pads (pleather, angled), powered by little bear P9 fu32 & op chip headphone amplifier. Pro-Ject Pre Box DS for volume control. Yamaha KX-493 with play trim and pre-recorded (comercial) audio cassettes for glorious analog sound. Already tried ... ...- vintage64

I run the Jergpad mod v2.5 but without the velours stitching. The soundstage changed in a very positive way. Best sound so far and pleather comfort. Bass modified Darkvoice 336SE offers the glorious sound of triode.- vintage64

A brief summary since one year of enjoying the music with this gem: amping my HE-400 using a vintage RCA 6AS7 (modified Darkvoice 336 SE), there are no treble issues for me at all. With stock canare cable and velours, just glorious sound. I have used the stock pleathers at the beginning, but not...- vintage64

Still love my HE400 cans and more than ever. With my current setup - modified Darkvoice 336 SE, Sylvania 6AS7G, Shuguang CV181-Z and Pioneer DV-668AV - I have never heard Snow Patrol "Up to now" so nice and moving. I will have to try the jergpad mod ... and yes, bass has outstanding qualities...- vintage64

Quote: I guess its because the HE-400 is a little bit dark, so the usual NOS 6AS7 (black plate) may be kind of an overkill, leading to a dull presentation. The Shuguang 6N13P has a very full and warm sound, maintaining the details, which is of cause very important. Its a NOS 6AS7G / 6H13...- vintage64

Darkvoice 336 + 336i Tuberolling [ tubes ]
Did the fitz mod on my Darkvoice 336SE - 220 uF output caps - to fit my HE-400. It is a dream come true ! For me, the Shuguang 6N13P sounds best and beats the best 6AS7 and 6080 from US and russian origin (did not expect that). Well, the HE-400 is dark, so I guess the NOS bp 6AS7 is kind of...- vintage64

Hello, I'm joining the party, driving my new HE-400 for now via Little Dot MKIII (and a valab TDA 1543 nos DAC as source). The HE-400 beats my really nice DT990 pro in every aspect. Regarding comfort the HE is on par with the DT. I'm absolutely amazed how naturally the HE-400...- vintage64
