AKG K512 MK2 any thoughts on sound
Just grabbed them and breaking them in. I'm usually an on-ear sorta guy but these seemed pretty nice for the price. Gasman's right about it working really well with Jazz. McPatD Wasn't kidding about the treble though - stuff can be piercing. Pairing it with an E6, E11, or E17 seems to offset...- TheWanderingEye

Koss Pro DJ 100 - The Budget King
Been running these with the E17's myself, optical for both my PC and PS3 - pretty damn great. I don't find I have to use the hardware EQ since I don't find it hard to hear one thing over the other (if that makes any sense). Seriously considering the SE's because the damn long coiled cable makes...- TheWanderingEye

AKG k518DJ headband, pads and cable mods
Breaking in a pair myself - hoping to use them as a closed back commuting pair. Man, you guys weren't kidding about the clamping. Velour pads should arrive next week.- TheWanderingEye

Quote: Ditto. The DJ100s alone don't seem a compelling reason to get the E9. Though I do have a pair of AKG K240s which seem to be a little hungrier for power. If they pair well I might seriously consider it.- TheWanderingEye

Koss Pro DJ 100 - The Budget King
@Tangster: >ATH A700X Damn, those things are beasts. I take it back, that looks closer to being a helmet. Allegedly the M50 pads are a suitable replacement. I'm more in the market for a velour solution...- TheWanderingEye

Koss Pro DJ 100 - The Budget King
@Tangster: Mine's in competition with my Grado sr60i's for most uncomfortable pair. Perhaps the most damning for it is the thing's weight - machined metal housing and coiled cable. It's sturdy, but damn does it feel like putting on a helmet. It's finally winter here so pads become a feature...- TheWanderingEye

Got myself an E17 and out of the box it didn't seem like it agreed with the DJ 100s. I slept on it and re-examined the E17 and it turns out by default gain was set to 6db. Setting it back to 0db seems to have fixed it. Now several episodes of my shows, a movie, and some hours of listening later...- TheWanderingEye

Best clip-ons: Yuin G1A, ATH-EW9, KSC-35km, modded KSC-35, Yuin G2A, MDR-Q68LW, DIY Grado clip-ons, KSC-75
Just posting to say thanks for the tips, especially for the Q68LW. Gets colder here up north and a closed, on-ear solution that's hat friendly is a little tough to come by. These fit the bill except they're not very glasses friendly :V Out of the box the things were pretty anemic sounding...- TheWanderingEye

Just got my old RMA'd pair back, and now it has an L-plug :V They even shipped it back with another pouch. Now to mod the other pair.- TheWanderingEye

Koss Portapro Thread
Found that I had an old pair of headphones (Philips SHN5500) with pleather pads approximately the same size as the portapros, so I decided I'd give them a shot. Pretty damn thick, and I think the way the pads recess from the inside sorta creates the bass lens effect jgray91 outlined in his post...- TheWanderingEye

Koss Pro DJ 100 - The Budget King
Quote: Depends on if you set the output to headphone or line-out/speaker on your audio settings. Usually when you map the jack to a headphone profile it runs the signal through some built in amp, though these things are generally low quality. If you've got Realtek onboard sound, go to the...- TheWanderingEye

Challenge accepted. I find it appalling that Canadian BBs aren't carrying the clip zip yet. Only now did they choose to unload the Clip+ and Fuze+. As for the E6, neither of the bass boost options are particularly good - both muddy up the sound - so I still have some use for the E11. Will...- TheWanderingEye

@boogienights: Looks neat - don't need to quarter mod my original pads. My only concern is stuff getting in the drivers or something. What's your experience with that?- TheWanderingEye

Well, picked them up and haven't been listening to them too long but I can say this: I do prefer the step volume control over the E11's dial :V I know I'm probably going to be eaten alive for that comment. I've experimented with my favorite tracks and yeah, I could distinguish right away...- TheWanderingEye

Well, it looks like the E5 and E6 restocked at my local shop. Been rockin' the DJ100s with an E11 but I'm looking for something a little more transportable and sizable as the clip+. If it were a toss up between the two, should I get the E5 because it pairs well or the E6 for the added...- TheWanderingEye
