I agree. IMO Rockbox adds playback features, not better sound quality. Just stifle your fear of missing out and avoid your fear of making a mistake and concentrate on enjoying your music on your player.- the Red Eft

OK...By doing a lot of thread reading I think I figured out what I was doing wrong in trying to reinstall Rockbox. (Mango, which I never used before, works fine.) But it seems to install updates I need the "stock recovery" file to get past cwm recovery, and none of the links to that file are...- the Red Eft

Followup: I put an album on the internal memory, which I never really use, and the same thing happens. Also, while I had the DX50 plugged into my PC as a hard drive, I played files from both the external microSD card and the internal memory with no problems.- the Red Eft
