    Hifiman HE1000-SE

Hi all. I recently got a hold of these headphones and am really enjoying the sound. However, I find that they're a little uncomfortable due to the ear pads being stiff -- at least compared to other cans I've used. Are there any alternative pads that I could use as a replacement? Something nice...

    Rational reasons to love vinyl

I understand where you're coming from, but let's be honest, there was nothing constructive in that comment, whatever your intention. I see a lot of ipsedixitisms outside this section, making the sorts of claims you dislike. It comes off bad to me in either case. Anyway, it's not really a big...

    Rational reasons to love vinyl

I didn't say it wasn't. I'm not defending those people. This section should have some integrity, and Sal1950's comment wasn't at all constructive.

    Rational reasons to love vinyl

Quote: Not that I'm a fan of vinyl -- less a couple of unique masterings exclusive to this medium -- but it just sounds like you disregarded the entire thread and wanted to have a go at people. This is the Sound Science section, not the Sound Science Circlejerk section.

    IEM FR vs Full size

What you're talking about is independent of the listening environment. This sort of weighting won't compensate for the acoustic differences between speakers, headphones and so on. In fact, I don't think it has any place in measuring the frequency response of the playback device, as perceptual...

20% Off Select Hi-res Rock Titles - Led Zeppelin on HDtracks June 3rd

Technically, the Mastering Engineer was John Davis (as I mentioned in a previous post), but Jimmy Page was no doubt involved.

20% Off Select Hi-res Rock Titles - Led Zeppelin on HDtracks June 3rd

Can you PM me the site? I've already seen pirate copies on the internet (including CD and LP rips) and it's tempting me :p.

20% Off Select Hi-res Rock Titles - Led Zeppelin on HDtracks June 3rd

Not sure what you mean, but it's mentioned in the original post that Led Zeppelin's albums are coming out on the 3rd, though bear in mind it's only the first three albums, along with bonus tracks. If you didn't know already, these are the remasters John Davis has done. The other albums will be...

20% Off Select Hi-res Rock Titles - Led Zeppelin on HDtracks June 3rd

Personally, I don't believe a higher resolution or sampling rate is going to make a noticeable difference (I'll believe it when I hear it), but it isn't just about that. HDtracks also remasters a lot of the titles they release (but not always). In this case, there is going to be a difference to...

    Sound Card W/ DAC Compatibility

Ah, my bad. I was looking at pictures of the older model.   Still, I'm afraid it's only for stereo since it only has one headphone socket.

    Sound Card W/ DAC Compatibility

Neither the Magni or Modi support optical, so no.   If an amp or DAC only has a single headphone jack, it won't support surround sound.

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Non-linear noise is noise produced by a non-linear system. If we're being pedantic, I suppose it's wrong to say the noise is non-linear, because it's the system that is.   Less confusing (or rather more insightful) perhaps, because the correlation of quantisation errors is the reason behind...

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Yes, and also that quantisation on its own introduces non-linear noise. The point is there's more to it than "the noise in 16-bit audio is inaudible".   Quote: What's confusing about it? We can indeed say that the quantisation noise is non-linear.

24bit vs 16bit, the myth exploded!

Great post, gregoria. There are a couple of things I'd like to add about resolution, though. When you quantise an analogue signal, the noise introduced can actually be non-linear. This distortion can be audible. To prevent this, we can randomise the quantisation errors so that the noise is ergo...

The inside of a $450 speaker cable box.

Non-linear distortion? That's like saying "round circle". Distortion is always non-linear.
