to be honest headphones are great for private listening to improve your listening experience get some quality speakers and have the best of both worlds as a choice.  

akg k240 studio would be my pick at that price if you can accept some leakage from semi-open cans. They are my pick for most comfortable can under 2 bills and have a natural and nuetral sound. The bass is decent but the mids are its strong point.  

been also looking at the akg k240 but heard the switch to china manufacture has hurt the SQ and build quality. any truth to this?

flatmap thanks for the senn hd448-449 suggestion, doing some reading on them they look like a possibility I'll put them on my possible list. If I up my budget to $150-175 will There be a significantly better choices of cans?
