A 20 year old CD player against the new ones
I remember doing a shootout between several of our more expensive Sony, Denon, Yamaha and the (then new) Adcom CD player in the late 80s. While the others all sounded pretty much the same (good), the Adcom was head and shoulders better at defining the members of a choir, or orchestra, as well as...- SeeHear

Sennheiser HD650 or HD600 - Do they really need an amp?
Big surprise (to me): The 650 sounds great driven by the LG V30! In fact, I like it better than via my WA2!- SeeHear

It sounds like your settings are the issue. How do you have your machine connected to the dac? What are your tidal settings?- SeeHear

Hi, I've had my WA2 about 5.5 - 6 years, with WAY more than 10 hours on it! The amp itself is like new - no, it sounds better than new. The only negative effects from age, as far as I have seen, is degradation of the tubes. If the tubes are only 10 hours in, this deal sounds like a no-brainer.- SeeHear

They are great sounding amps. Most folks don't have a problem with them. But, if you do... I've written about my experiences dealing with Wu elsewhere in this thread. If you want more info, PM me. I'll give you all the gory details.- SeeHear

Good luck, pal. Be prepared to have to "prove" the amp is having a problem. I hope your experience is better than mine - the amps do sound great; but, getting any kind of assistance with a problem is a consistently unpleasant experience.- SeeHear

Sennheiser HD650 or HD600 - Do they really need an amp?
Not for nuthin'; but more volume does not equal more better. Gnome sane? If you have a high quality source, and high quality recordings, you will have no problem discerning the improvement better amplification provides.- SeeHear

Does that mean you did, or did not use the jumpers?- SeeHear

I'm curious as to how long you had the original Brooklyn. Mine took many hours of 24/7 power on and listening before blossoming into its own glory. Initially, I was quite underwhelmed. Now, I'm thinking of ditching my Marantz Reference SA-10 in favor of the Brooklyn. In fairness, the Brooklyn is...- SeeHear

Agreed - it takes quite a bit of beak in before it sounds its best. Must be warmed up sufficiently, too. Though, thankfully, not as much Naim gear, LOL!- SeeHear

Did you adjust the gain with jumpers before giving up on it? I've read that will address the hiss issue.- SeeHear

I dropped mine off and picked it up - I don't want to know what he would have tried to charge for shipping. What bothered me wasn't the amount of money - but that he charged me at all. It was in because they screwed up the last time they had it. Yeah, they checked out my tubes - but I know how...- SeeHear
