The Deals Thread (CLOSED! See the last post for the link to the new thread)

Europeeps: there's an ex-display Heed Canamp up on fleabay UK at the mo, it's been relisted a few times because it's not selling for some reason. currently £249, 100 quid cheaper than it goes for elsewhere...i'd buy it except i've just bought a different amp.

Rationalwiki on audiophiles, what do you think?

Quote: *hand-wavey bit*   my understanding is no, because tube distortion acts on even-ordered harmonics...unlike solid state circuitry. so it would be a different/more musically dissonant type of distortion.

Comfortable full size closed headphones with HD25 sound signature?

Quote: I went from HD25s to K271 mkIIs after i got sick of my HD25s breaking (the left hand connector issue). i have to say the AKGs are fundamentally different headphones, really great, but different. they sound more laid back than the Senns. good isolation, the comfort and the easily...

Rationalwiki on audiophiles, what do you think?

The "Audio Woo" article was faintly amusing and made some good (if already well-trodden) points, but it would be easy for a non audio enthusiast to read that and come away with a load of ignorant prejudices. The degradation of the consumer audio soundscape (loudness wars, low bitrates, the...

HD650 and Maranatz, Fiio, or Schiit? Need Opinions

that 5004 is a great CD player and the consensus seems to be that it punches above its weight considering the price (i got mine new for £99, deal of the century imho). mine is usually paired with a CA 650A integrated amp and i love it, i wouldn't describe it as midrangey at all, it's very detailed.

    Drunk listening

real ale all the way...unless i'm flush, then it's Cardenal Mendoza brandy.   perhaps in the spirit of all those interminable threads about cables, we could discuss how the shape of the glass you're drinking out of affects the sound quality. for instance, i am currently drinking beer from a...

    Alcohol and perceived sound quality

i rarely sit down for an evening listening session without a couple of beers or glasses of wine but i have to say that there's no doubt in my mind that alcohol degrades the listening experience in terms of sound quality, detail, and maintaining any sort of attention. which isn't to say it's not...

matching an amp to your cans - the numbers

thanks Adda. it's kind of moot now, i've bought an amp that i'm certain isn't technically a good match for my headphones....because i liked the amp. gratification 1, science 0

matching an amp to your cans - the numbers

ok, given that (it says here) Power = Voltage squared / Impedance, i'm thinking that the Novo will output about 77mW into the 62 ohm K702s.   am i doing this right? and is this adequate for a headphone with a maximum power of 200mW? anyone?

matching an amp to your cans - the numbers

Just wondering how to ensure that an amp is appropriate for a pair of headphones in terms of output power, headphone impedance etc.   Say for example the AKG K702 has an impedance of 62 ohms and a maximum power rating of 200mW. The Graham Slee Novo amplifier will put 150mW into a 32 ohm...

Do SENNHEISER HD25-1 II isolate and keep sound in well?

i used HD25s at work every day for years and only ever had one comment about leakage (and i was seriously blasting it)

Some of the myths associated with K701/2

Just thought I'd jump in and share my K702 experience. I bought them after my Senn HD-25s broke for the second time, and they are the most expensive / high-end cans I've owned so far. As I listen to mostly reggae and electronic music with some reggae lineage, I've always chased "bassy"...
