post your grado mods....
I would like to share my modding experience with Alessandro MS-1i (with classical cups). I think the mod led to excellent sonic results, so I could recommend it. My basic idea was to preserve the original look, using some of the 'engineering' ideas from the top of the range Grado headphones...- reaction

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.
Yes, I would agree. The migration from Grado/Beyerdynamic to HE is easier. AKG seems to be a kind of different breed, tonally and dynamically. The upgrade from velour pads to leatherette gives a lot more bass control and low octave response due to better isolation and different damping.- reaction

Chesky Records makes a high-rez album for Head-Fi'ers--in binaural!
Regarding CD vs. CD-R - it is a long discussion, which is not relative to this topic. Just two words: you can't burn properly a CD-R these days in order to obtain a true matrix CD playback quality (perfect pits and stops). The old Yamaha recorders did the 'trick' using the so called Audio... -

Quote: I don't think burned CD-R from a lossless source files has equal quality to a matrix PCM CD. For me listening to virtual music (a.k.a. files) is a nonsense. Cesky loses. -

When this album will be available on a good old low-res CD? -
The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!
I would like to use the internal amplifier of 5G and to replace the stock coupling capacitors with Black Gates. Should I remove the "Z" caps on the picture below and to solder Black Gates at their place? Are these the coupling caps to the headphone out?- reaction

HE-5..initial musings
I found that HE-5 recabled with Moon Audio Black Dragon cable is a perfect match in terms of neutrality and live sound. The nasty lift up at upper mids and highs is gone. The frequency balance is very similar to HD800 now with a hint of softening the edges in music. The orchestral performance is...- reaction

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
Does anybody tried HE-6 with Moon Audio Black Dragon cable? Any impressions? Regarding the weight - my HE-5 are too heavy for my taste being a Grado user for more than 10 years. So HE-6 are the same I suppose. Yes, they are comfortable if you are in a still position, but every slight movement...- reaction

HifiMAN HE-6 Planar Magnetic Headphone
There will be a change in the sound for sure. Leather is damping differently (less) than velvet.- reaction

Does anybody know if there are genuine leather pads for HE-5 and HE-6 available somewhere? I hate those velvet-like pads, because they collect lots of dust.- reaction

Quote: I do not agree with you. You could be right per se, only if there is an extended testing/breaking-in procedure for all new drivers. If I were Mr. Fang, I probably would do that regarding all returned pairs for replacing. The break-in period is a purely mechanical and...- reaction
