Echobox Audio Explorer impressions and discussion thread
I've experienced a weird Spotify problem twice now. Not sure if's it's Explorer or Spotify related. But if the player runs out of power during playback, when it gets power again Spotify can't see the offline music, it's still there as the app has ~10GB of data in it, but it can't be seen or...- Psymon

So i finally received my new unit after receiving one of the initial 45 units. I've enjoyed the sound of the original with wifi off, so I'm not gonna comment on that. But what i will comment on is that i've tested the new one shortly this morning, and it now works as a streaming device! No...- Psymon

That is really nice to hear! Glad you are solving the issues and looking forward to a fault free unit :) Will you contact the original backers that are experiencing problems, or should we just shoot you an email within the next few weeks to get things started?- Psymon

Don't think it's faulty battery meter, this has happened on several occasions, where i've removed it from the charger, used it for roughly 1-2 hours, turned off music, left whatever player so it wasn't running, and then clicked the volume know for sleep. Not powered it off, because, well if...- Psymon

I've gotten to use my unit a bit more over the past week or so, and i'm still very much enjoying the sound. My Zen 2.0 sounds absolutely amazing out of it! That aside, it's 100% useless with wifi enabled, the pops and crackle are very audible, even on high Ohm headphones. So no streaming...- Psymon

I totally agree with you! And i bought this as a streaming player, and will frankly not be satisfied if it's not possible to stream music with it. BUT! I thought we needed a bit of positive input as well, so this thread didn't drown in negativity. And i will still say, that when i work around...- Psymon

So the issues of hiss/crackle, which i only get when not in flight mode, battery and some software stuff aside, I can honestly say I'm really satisfied with the sound of my Explorer! I'm using it almost purely with earbuds, as they are my main type of headphones. So far I've listened to it...- Psymon

This seems to be a software issue, where you need to exit the music app, or it'll keep the amp powered on and drain the battery. My little testing has shown that exiting the tidal, spotify or usb audioplayer app mitigates this issue. I believe Echobox has confirmed this and are working on a fix.- Psymon

I've had a weird problem two days in a row now. Listen to some music. Pause music and pack away the Explorer. Pick it up hours later to see it completely drained of battery. Android battery management don't know what used the power just that something did. So second day in a row I've not been...- Psymon

1) Yes a) Yes, whenever WIFI is on and active (streaming), it's less so if wifi is on and playing local music b) Yes, really loud tracks can hide it, but it's never gonde c) Whenever headphones are in my ears and it's streaming, haven't used it while charging. 2) Yes (kinda) a) It's the...- Psymon

The crackle is very obvious even on "louder" tracks with more sensitive headphones than the Zen 2.0. It kinda helps a bit turning BT off, and it got better after turning wifi on and off, but it's there :( I got the mahogany version, and the looks are so nice! The logo is not that...- Psymon

Good to hear you're looking into it. What about us that are affected by it, will we have the possibility of getting it fixed when you've solved it? Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk- Psymon

In those scenarios i will agree, but i tend to use my DAP (previously my phone) as a source of music at the office or in the living room, where wifi makes it possible for me to find new music and explore genres through spotify or other streaming services. I sold my previous Fiio X3 for...- Psymon

Gaah, i thought they had cleared that. A streaming DAP without the possibility of streaming seems... failed? And yes i'm using it with WIFI on and streaming from Spotify. I'll give it a try with airplane mode on, but I hope Echobox will address this issue, as I'm fairly sure they said they...- Psymon

Just received my Explorer and it's powering my VE Zen 2.0 right now :) The build is really nice, but it seems the option of not getting the logo instead of getting it engraved didn't really work, so mine that i hoped would be blank, have a huge ECHOBOX logo on the back :( The sounds...- Psymon
