I own both the Shure SRH940 and the AKG K550. The AKG has a wider soundstage but it almost sounds like it's less cohesive than the 940s. In my opinion, the Shure is more full-bodied sounding (maybe because the bass seems a touch more prominent) and makes nuances stick out more than the AKG...

Crap. I've been incredibly happy lately because I found a pair of brand new 940s for $160 CDN, but I was always a little leery of the build quality. After reading this thread, I don't even want to put the headphones on anymore. :(   It's a shame, because I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 940s.

I generally really dislike talking instead of singing in a song, but listening Somewhere Down The Crazy River by Robbie Robertson through my K550 sent shivers down my spine. The vocals  (both talking and singing) sound incredible throughout the track.

This is immensely entertaining.   As a previous XB500 owner, I highly recommend those cans for BOOM BOOM BOOM. I don't even want to imagine what it would be like with the ZO.

Since you are located in Canada, you can try The Headphone Bar as well. It's an actual store located in Vancouver, but you can buy online as well.
