HTC M8 has power to drive full sized headphones (my Beyer DT250 80ohm) but the clarity is lacking compared to a Cowon J3 or Plenue D.   Just not quite good enough for me.

It sounds like it will handily out perform the Plenue D, which excites me greatly!

Hey everyone, my HTC M8 just crapped out so I'm in the market for a new phone. Depressingly, my Cowon Plenue D player also died a couple of weeks back. I'm in the midst of a technology curse it seems!   Anyway, I'm just trying to get a handle on what has been happening in the phone as audio...

Thanks for the advice. It wouldn't surprise me if it's a part common to other Cowon players, but the innards of the Plenue D don't seem well documented at all.   The player wasn't even a year old. Usually warranty would be an option, but I purchased it in Japan so I'm out of luck there.  ...

So my Plenue D was playing up (headphone jack only outputting to right side) and my dad opened it up. He managed to fix the jack problem, but when he was putting it back together one of the strips that connects to the volume/power/play buttons broke... how boned am I exactly? Is there any info...

I actually think the Plenue D isn't bad in terms of pricing. It's not nearly as expensive as a lot of the other players out there, and the build quality seems classy (old CPU etc aside!). I picked mine up for about $300 AUD. For reference, this is about the same as what I payed for a Cowon J3...

I've been having fun with the EQ on this. I barely touched it on my J3, but I actually have standard BBE on most of the time now. I find it gives the bass a bit of an extra kick without being too overbearing. It definitely doesn't work for all albums though.... for example, the new Radiohead...

I have a HTC M8 and mate... the sound quality isn't what it's cracked up to be. Can't touch the D.   People said the 9 was an improvement over the 8, and I'm sure the 10 will continue that trend but I'm still pretty skeptical after getting frankly burnt by the M8 on this front.

Hehe I was actually only talking about an Xperia Z1 phone! I'd hope a ZX would do the job.
