    Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7 Discussion Thread

So, I just auditioned them for a while. First impressions are that they are one of the more comfortable portable closed cans that I have tried. What impressed me most was the build quality, it reminded me a lot of the K550. Sound wise, personal preference rates these above competing models...

    Review of Audio Technica ATH-IM01, ATH-IM02, ATH-IM03, ATH-IM04, ATH-IM50, & ATH-IM70

Looking to upgrade from the IM02. The obvious step is the IM03 (I already own the A-T copper cable), but is there a better option?  I really liked the sound signature of the IM02, but would like a larger soundstage, so I have been looking into portable over ear headphones, but have not found...

Leaps and bounds ahead. A little bit more detail retrieval, much better imaging and instrument separation, greater spacial positioning.  I don't have the HF05 on hand any more, but that's what it felt like to me. On the IM02 everything sounds less rough or harsh. Although, if I remember...

I'm less worried about the resell value, but more concerned about running the sound signature.. I really doubt I could get the foam back into the nozzle. If it really is some sort of dampening component its removal could prove fatal to the IEMs :(

Ah, but as I recall the filters on the non BA series are thin disc like structures. This is not the case with the BA series. The 01/02 filters could be described as wool being stuffed into a tube.

You're referring to the foam like material in the nozzle, right? I always assumed it had some sort of dampening background... Does the removal of this piece have a similar effect for the other IM series models? It'd be hard to return it once removed..

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones Part II

I can see this thread taking a very, VERY dark detour. For the sake hilariousness, please let us continue to share stories of this thread's namesake. No offence to anyone intended.

Yep, I got to play with a demo unit for a little while. THIS THING IS SMALL. Other than that, it really just seems like the little brother of the X5.

I have the IM02, and it's marvellous. Definitely worth to upgrade from the IM70. Drastic increase in detail, clarity, and, most notably, soundstage. If you are sensitive to treble though, you have to be aware that these are incredibly revealing IEMs and moderately hard to pair (according to...

I've tried the comply foam ones, and I don't really like them. Treble presence is reduced greatly, while bass is increased by a moderate amount. I have not tried removing the wax guard, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of getting the TX500 over the T500? I'm still in search of tips that I...

Would you say you were buying a different sound, rather than upgrading, when considering the IM range? This seems to apply to this series more than any other I've heard of. I'm not trying to criticise your analysis, I'm genuinely curious..

Okay, so after some testing I have come to the conclusion that the change of size in the soundstage is smaller than in my initial impressions, but not non-existent. I tried to focus on a single instrument of a song, and tried to remember my perception of its location in relation to my actual ear...

Hmmm. I THINK I get a larger soundstage with the AT upgrade cable. I'm pretty sure that one is made from a different material. However, now I'm in doubt. I'll go do comparisons immediately.
