    Paradox and Mad Dog Comparison

Quote: I can't provide any anecdotal evidence, as I'm still waiting for my paradox to arrive, but I don't believe the LCD-2 measures that much like the paradox in terms of treble... LCD-2: Paradox: As you can see, it appears the LCD-2 has a very noticeable downward...

    Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

Quote: Interesting. When I was modding mines and messing around, I felt the cups did a lot more to add soundstage than the pads... The pads did change the actual tonality of the cans and brought back a bit of bass though. Wouldn't blame anybody for skipping on the cups either way, cause...

    Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

Quote: I actually have to disagree about the cups... they do noticeably improve the soundstage, and put it on par with the fostex imo. However, I wouldn't say they're totally worth the $300 premium... Still, $500 total for a good sound-improving mod is a decent deal compared to the fostex...

The T50RP Paradox | reviews, discussion, & mini-tour impressions (index in second post)

Quote: Hm, so something like a Paradox+HE-6+HD800 lovechild of sorts, maybe? Interesting... P.S.: Totally unrelated, but while you're here -- what DAC would you recommend for under ~$800?  I've been looking into the resonessence concero or teac ud 501 recently, but I'm not sure about...

    Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

Hm, I highly doubt my modded D5000 sounds any better than a modded D7000, so I find it interesting that people find there to be such a huge disparity between these and the fostex... When I compared them I did notice the added detail and such, but it seemed like a much smaller jump than going...

    Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones

Quote: Actually, I did get a chance to compare my modded D5000's against a pair of TH900's about 2 weeks ago, and let me just say... you wouldn't be missing much. The TH900 had nicer mids for sure, and the treble might've been a bit smoother, along with a little bit of added detail in...

The T50RP Paradox | reviews, discussion, & mini-tour impressions (index in second post)

Of course this news had to come out the week after I finally decided to place an order for these... sigh. Even if they come out to be more expensive and are still a few months away or so, If he's still aiming for the same goal of neutrality, I would've gladly waited a while longer... Oh well...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Quote: Yeah, in terms of getting timbre 'right', that's pretty much true. I think the merits there are more about getting ambiance and special positioning right though, not to mention the deep, controlled (yet, admittedly artificial) bass. It's not easy getting those lower frequencies...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Quote: Well, when you're competing against speakers, the HD800 and SR-009 are probably the closest, but yeah they're not necessary. It's more that they make it easier. Anybody can learn to mix properly in headphones if they put the effort into it, but it is certainly much more challenging...

My take on LCD-2 and HD800

Not to step in on any debates or anything, but I have to agree; Tyll does seem to biased towards dark headphones. After seeing him like the HE-500's over the HE-5LE and HE-6, and buying the UE 6000's on his high praise, only to return them due to their excessive darkness, I've learned to take...

    The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread

Quote: I think that's largely due to the stigma surrounding headphones for audio production. I originally got into headphones through that 'world' before I joined head-fi, and there is a lot of negativity surrounding headphones for anything other than tracking or mix 'checking'; Just look...

Broke College student looking for a nice pair of cans...

Quote: That's the theory, but even if you do get financial aid of any kind, it's usually just barely enough to get by and comes with all sorts of stipulations. Personally, I don't think I've met a single non-broke college student that didn't work their ass off on the side somehow throughout...

"Mad Dog" by MrSpeakers, modified Fostex T50RP review

Quote: Usually, distortion on the high gain channel is indicative of being underpowered. If you're using the stock 13.5v/200mA power supply that's usually recommended for it, or batteries, you're gonna get distortion. I had the same thing happen, but then I upgraded to a 20v/500mA power...

    Step above mid fi

Quote: lol, he never referred to all high-end amps, and he certainly did not call them bad. It's easy to get carried away in the moment and make interpretations like that due to a general negative tone from a post, but when you go back and read things when you've had time to get away from...

    Step above mid fi

Quote: Yes, I did read the thread after all. It's more about the general sentiment. For things where it's all about personal preference and what sounds 'better', it strikes me as odd that people would even quibble about such minor product decisions, since most people don't normally get the...
