I'd 2nd sugguestion of either the Sansa Fuse or Clip - IMO my Clip actually sounds better than my Sony A806, Sony A816 or iPod classic. It's become my player of choice for the time being as it's cheap, sounds great (with decent headphones) and fairly well built.

As a new Cowon D2 owner it'll surprise you that I'm giving the Sony my vote!! However I found that my old A806 hissed hell of a lot less than the A826 I recently returned. Don't get me wrong I still like the D2, I just reckon my old A806 was better built and sounded a lot better.
