I have never encountered problems in the quality of the recording either. Maybe, hykhleif, it's just these particular songs you don't like?- mjolnir1989

any audiophile that listens to trance.
I'm not a big fan of Goa or Psychedelic Trance, but I love trance nonetheless. My favourite artists are Solar Fields (Earthshine is a near-perfect trance album for me) and Vibrasphere.- mjolnir1989

drum and bass appreciation thread
My favourite "liquid D'nB" artist and overall D'nB artist is Seba. Alaska and Paradox are also really good. For the harder, darker D'nB, I turn to DJ Hidden. :-)- mjolnir1989

Critical Listening Playlist - what song for what attribute
Usually, I use Blue Moon Station by Solar Fields, or Distances by H.U.V.A. Network to judge overall sound. There are a lot of different sounds and the mastering has been done well enough that they're distinguishable, so separation can be tested. The sounds in the albums also cover the whole...- mjolnir1989

Uplifting Trance reccomendations
+1 for Above & Beyond. "Sirens Of The Sea" album under their Oceanlab moniker in particular. Anything by Sunny Lax. Blue Bird is my favourite uplifting trance song until date. RAMsterdam (Jorn van Deynhoven Remix). Love this song. "Carnet de Vol" album by Ferry Tayle. Packed with very good...- mjolnir1989

I thought the same thing the first time I listened to them too. I think it was Ágætis Byrjun I was listening to. But multiple listens tempered it out. When you say sharp and messy, are you referring to the sound quality of the recording or to the singer's voice or anything else in particular?- mjolnir1989

How Do You Discover Music?
I primarily use the website http://www.discogs.com/. They have a HUGE user-generated, accurate database of releases and it lists related albums/works when you view the details of each release. If you find that you like a particular label, it lists every single release under the label too. That...- mjolnir1989

Non-distracting ambient music to help with concentration when doing mental-intensive work
Personally, I find music by artists like Christian Fennesz and Tim Hecker helpful. If that music sounds too glitchy/abrasive, you can't go wrong with Brian Eno!- mjolnir1989

What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again by Tim Hecker. Great music to drift away to, or to concentrate on! Paradoxical.- mjolnir1989

Book-Fi
The genres I love the most are science fiction and fantasy (The Wheel Of Time series has been a great journey for me, for example). Within science fiction, I enjoy cyberpunk and dystopian books the most; authors like Philip K. Dick, George Orwell and William Gibson.- mjolnir1989
