How does one introduce colouration into equipment?

And if you really want to have some color, add a tone stack.

    Solder?

Yep. I need some really thin for surface mount, and for metal to metal, like making battery packs,i have a bottle of flux. No rule says you only have to have one iron either. I have a temperature controlled iron for PCB, and a 40 watt for point to point. Quote: Originally posted by...

    Morgan Jones Performance

The one is smaller because it uses a wall wart. They are both essentially the same, just 2 ways to build it. the 'smaller' is the revised circuit, and the changes havn't made it to the Bender page yet.

    Solder?

That's why i recommend 63/37. a pound of solder last a LONG time for most people, therefor it is a worthwile investment. You'll see when you get some you'll never miss that 'mushyness'. Quote: Originally posted by CaptBubba PPR, I use the same techniques you describe, but I always...

    Solder?

Has to do with the way the 'terminals' at the end of the componants are attached. I think they are nickel. If you don't use silver, you run the risk (especially on cheap caps) of having the ends come off. Quote: Originally posted by Joobu Why would one use 2% silver for surface...

    Morgan Jones Performance

Don't know yet. an improved schematic has just been posted, and i'll be building a 6N1P version. won't know for a while.

    Solder?

define 'average' solder. You should be using 63/37. IF you are going to be using surface mount, then you should be using 2% silver. NO 60/40!! BTW you can use different widths of solder as well.

    What an Idiot

proxy bidding...you can input a max price you will pay for something, and if someone else comes up with a bid and it's not enough, they have to put in another bid.

    DIY Radio

My rat shack DX-398 (Sangean 909) is just larger than a TV Guide, no weather band, but it has line out.

Build Morgan Jones or buy MG Head?

The design is going thru a revision, and i still need a drill press and a unibit before i start building. However, if anything, you'll have less power problems than I will, the 6N1P heaters eat 600mA EACH. The Hammond 269AX should have plenty of oomph.

    Earmax & RF problems

I'll second the power supply as a possible source...i'd try a choke as close to the unit as possible.

    Earmax & RF problems

Where in the world are you? I havn't noticed any extrordanary conditions (flux is declining ) , but if you happen to be in europe, it tends to be an RF rich enviroment there. Make notes...is it the same station, at the same time every day? Different stations? frequency?

    Earmax & RF problems

Anything connected to an input is antenna. I'll bet you're using unshielded wire somewhere. Grounding is important as well. One of your leads may be just the right length (1/4 wave) for an antenna. If you listen to it carefully, maybe you can get a callsign and frequency. Quote...

Build Morgan Jones or buy MG Head?

I'm building a MJ soon, but i won't be using super mojo parts in it. I am looking for some off-the-shelf low ESR caps. My tubes are on the way. I'm building the 6N1P version.
