    TEAC HA-501 Headphone Amp

Quote:   Very sexy! I'm a sucker for VU-meters, every amp should have em :D

A free parametric equalizer for Windows Vista, 7, and 8 that doesn't need ASIO or VST, it works inline at the OS level

Quote:   That's what I'm doing right now... ;) But seeing that you can even edit "on the fly" (so a GUI would just need to load/edit/save txt files) I wondered why there isn't one.

Would be nice if someone would write a GUI for editing and switching between presets etc...

Does turning the volume adjustment up 100% in Itunes decrease the quality of a song.

Yes, if we talk about player software it changes the situation... Depending on how the volume control was implemented you are fine, get clipping, or like mentioned above, a loss in dynamic range.

Like... in your operating system? To my understanding it shouldn't, as long the amplifying device (soundcard, whatever...) does everything right.

Why do CDs sound better than loss less audio files?

Quote:   Yes, upsampling will actually reduce the base signal (except if you go for factors of 4 or multiple of 4 with certain scalers), I oversimplified, but it seemed like a good analogy to me as it is visual, easy to try and understand. Of course "color resolution" (bitdepth) is the...

    TEAC HA-501 Headphone Amp

Quote:   Thanks! Actually I joined here because one of the drivers in my beloved Denon AH-D2000 died, so I looked for disassembly instructions and if someone with the same problem is willing to sell his broken ones (to repair mine). I'm involved in A/V related things for over 10 years...

    TEAC HA-501 Headphone Amp

Had to wait for more than a week... The amp is definitely more capable than the one in my Teac UD-H01 (which I already liked... but it lacks power and finesse). Don't know about the UD-501, but I bet its a pretty fine piece of gear as well, tho I wish it came with some sort of programmable DSP...

Why do CDs sound better than loss less audio files?

Quote:   Makes sense...   My thinking was that the process is like the upscaling of digital images, you can create a result with a higher "resolution" than than the original (interpolation) but its amount of information (detail) will be still the same. When displayed, you will get...

Why do CDs sound better than loss less audio files?

Quote: Resolution would refer to a limit in precision of the stored information... If volume doesn't have resolution it means the amplitude of a digitally stored waveform has infinity precision, how does that work?

Why do CDs sound better than loss less audio files?

Quote: Whats the difference between "resolution of volume" and "dynamic range" again?
  13. LordOctron

Do you hear the difference? (take the 128kbps / 320kbps test)

Hmm, to eliminate the longer delay with the higher bitrate sample both MP3s should be decoded to PCM/WAV and presented this way, identical delay...
