Early Chicago - sounds like AM
I know that most pop/rock singles into the late 70's were recorded/engineered so it would sound good over AM radio, but a lot have been re-mastered later to sound good in the digital realm. But, I have yet to find a version of any of the early Chicago stuff (I'm a sucker for a horn section) like... -
What song drops the deepest bass?
Used to use LL Cool J's Goin back to Cali for crank it up car contests. (kind of dating myself here...) I've heard that same synth bass in Sk8ter Boi mentioned upthread. Pink's Like A Pill does something similar. For rock stuff, Iced Earth gets pretty low, as does Rush when Geddy Lee gets... -
++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum
OK, jumping in here. Budget for cans, under 75USD if possible. I see a lot of recommendations in this thread, but I haven't spotted a recent one that meets what I'm looking for. Needs: Closed ear - Home use on TV and PC - used 8+ hours a day. Yes, really. Frustrated guitar/bass player who...- lajohn

What can I do with my dead laptop?
Quote: You could, but only if you have the same video card. They are usually built into the mobo in the Inspiron range. You may be able to hack it, if you know what you are doing.- lajohn

Quote: The only thing about "Kwai" that kind of irks me now is that one actor who plays one of the British prisoners that reminds me of Gordon Ramsay. He's distracting. But that's just me. And now I can't unsee it. Otherwise, it keeps me completely compelled throughout.- lajohn

What can I do with my dead laptop?
Former Dell tech here - If the motherboard is done, the computer is done. Check with Dell though, if you did somehow get the extended warranty, you may still be covered. Otherwise, put the power supply up for sale if it still works. Hard drive may still be salvageable. In a laptop...- lajohn

Constant headphone use + headphone amp question
OK, I'm going to reply to my own post here. After lurking a bit more, I see the issue with the Sonys. I actually opened them up. I guess I'm convinced. I did the mod recommended, removing the felt, and can hear the difference in the highs and the transparency. But I had to replace the pads. They...- lajohn

I'm more of a classic movie guy - always tuned to Turner Classic Movies, currently watching Bridge on The River Kwai. One of my top 5 films of all time. 9.8/10 Last movie I saw in a theater was Hurt Locker. Amazing. I now own it. One of my top 10. 9/10 Most current film I saw was...- lajohn

Constant headphone use + headphone amp question
I've been wearing headphones almost exclusively for 8 or so years now. Got in the habit when I worked in radio, preferred the nearfield audio, now I use them all the time, even for TV. I'm nearsighted, so I basically sit at my desk, dual monitors on the PC, 26" TV perched on top. Yes, I'm...- lajohn
