Overear headphone recommendation
The V MODA Crossfade LP/PL2 are better for electronic type music. The bass is a bit heavy and the mids are a bit recessed, which isn't good for guitar work. You would better of looking at Shure headphones. The Mikros are also a good option.- JoyboyP

Best "You Are There" Headphones.... Sennheiser HD 800s?
I would agree but I'm no expert. The Sennheiser HD800 at the moment are dubbed the world's best headphone but with a hefty price tag to go with it at £1000 brand new.- JoyboyP

How should I start, need help.
I would buy ones for going out first (as you can use them at home as well), then at home ones.- JoyboyP

Newbie here, need some advice - sennheiser HD 558 + Asus xonar dx
Hi again, Just thought have you tried changing the master audio options (equalizer). Found in lower left corner of the screen. You may get a good result with fiddling with them a bit. It would be cheaper to try that before buying anything.- JoyboyP

Sometimes sound cards can make your audio a bit bassy, the Creative Z is the same. This can be corrected, by changing some of the setting. I'm not sure how to do this but I hope it helps.- JoyboyP

Back to square one!
I personally would start with good headphones then get an amp or DAC, as it may be hard to tell the better sound with lower quality headphones. As I said I'm no expert, so if I were you I'd wait to see what others say.- JoyboyP

How should I start, need help.
I listen to a lot of electronic music. Ultrasone, Beyerdynamic, V MODA are good bassy brands of headphone. Sennheiser, Shure, AKG, I believe are better on the mids which may be better for you. I no expert, sorry couldn't be more helpful- JoyboyP

What Sound Card, DAC, and/or Amp For HD 558?
Hi, I'm currently building my own PC and I'm putting a Creative Sound Blaster ZXR in it. this has a module which plugs into it and comes around the front, for ease to change headphones and volume adjustment. Most sound cards included the Sound Blaster Z support up to 600 ohm headphones and...- JoyboyP

Personally I don't think you need to start at a low level headphone and work you way up. Just start where ever you want. What kind of music do you like to listen to as this can drastically affect what headphones you should go for. Most headphones that come with phones or you had as a kid where...- JoyboyP

Back to square one!
I don't really know much about amp or DAC but if you great sounding headphones I would go with the Sennheiser they make some of the best headphones (the HD 558 may be good option). Sorry I couldn't help any more.- JoyboyP

How noticeable is this?
I have the Sony MDR XD200 which have plastic head band and they get uncomfortable (and sometime painful) after about 30 mins. I'm not bald either but it's rather notice able. I also had the Sony PULSE headset which had a small amount of padding and I could wear those all day long and barely know...- JoyboyP
