Best Amp made by Stax for Omega II

Yeah I took a look at the circuit and realized it would require a total rebuild. Oh well, I will have to find something else to scratch my current DIY itch.

    The Stax thread (New)

I spent 6 weeks looking for a ground loop in my amp that ended up being a broken connector in my O2mkI. I want to find the engineer that came up with that "strain relief" and strangle him. However, everything else seems to be top notch in the O2 and now that I know about that problem I can fix...

Best Amp made by Stax for Omega II

For those of you getting ready to build the KGSS, you may want to look at the 2sc3676. It has twice the current capacity of the 2sc3675 (but twice the capacitance) so you may be able to run the KGSS at higher voltages. I looking into this now to see what else needs to be changed in the PS and...

Best Amp made by Stax for Omega II

Hey guys, I uploaded the BOM for the KGSS. Below is the orginal BOM. Some of the parts aren't available anymore but it includes both power supplies. 2shared - download kgss_parts.xls Additionally, here is the BOM I used. Most of the parts should be available, except for the 2sk which...

    KGSS sonic characteristics

The Koss 950 is a good headphone made better by the KGSS, but it does not play in the same league as the O2. The O2 simply has better bass, detail, and tonality and they are good for anything you throw at them. When you hear the them for the first time the bass will shock you; it was...

    GES or KGSS for HE60?

What about DIY? You can build the KGSS for ~$1000 and the BH for twice that.

Kinsale, Upgrade your source first, the music starts there. I am not sure what DACs to get as I use CD players.

    The Stax thread (New)

Kinsale, I would suggest upgrading your amp or source. The O2mk1 are brutally revealing and will let you know if there are any weakness. Likewise, the Sr-x will still scale with the new equipment. What's your budget?

    The Stax thread (New)

Having owned the Sr-XmkIII and now the o2mk1, the o2 is the like a Sr-x mkIII with none of its flaws. The o2s have bass, soundstage while retaining the toe tapping fun of the Sr-x. I almost think the stax designers went back to the vault and ignored the sound from the lambda series. If you don't...

the stax SR-Xs & other vintage staxs questions

i would suggest simply saving for the omega2mk1 or buy a better source. You'll get more bang for your buck that way. I started with the Sr-Xmk3 and I view the omega 2mk1 as an Sr-X mk3 with none of its flaws. The O1 has a driver defect which causes them to fail so that may not be the best use of...

    Electrostats : How to start?

It was about 800 for me which included the case work. It could be less if you could do the case work.

    Electrostats : How to start?

I fell in love with estats when I heard the HE60 at meet and over the years have proceeded to move up the chain. The closest I have come to owning a dynamic rig was the K340. I also enjoy all types of music and find estats handle all music equally well. I would recommend the Sr-X mk III. If...

    audio quality....DVD vs. BlueRay?

In my opinion, the audio improved just as much as the video on blu-ray vs dvd. So blu-ray is worth it from an audio standpoint.
