The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
I have no issue with the volume knob. From what I can tell the vast majority here that actually own an AK100 or RWAK100 don't have an issue with the volume knob. You do not need an amp with the RWAK100(for IEMs). I don't know about the AK100 since I don't own that one. On the other hand...- jliu

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
Got my RWAK100 today. Must say its a nice little package. Very small. UI is very easy to use. Took me a couple minutes to do the upgrade to v1.3. First thing I noticed was that I didn't format my cards right so I did that first. after that I noticed that it takes FOREVER to...- jliu

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
I was seriously considering replacing my solo with the new version that came out. Then go balanced in and balanced out. The new one also has a significantly longer battery life than the old version. I think I ended up not going that solution because my source would be iphone or ipod and...- jliu

The New iRiver/Astell & Kern AK100: A High-End DAP
I really don't see what the big deal is. The RWAK100 provides significant differences compared to what is currently in market. Either you believe those differences are worth the money or it isn't. If it is too much money just deal with what is currently inferior to it for now. I"m sure in...- jliu

The Best? DX100 vs AK100 vs Altmann Tera
no I wasn't planning on running it with MKIIIB all the time. Depends on how it sounds though. If its a noticeable difference paired with MKIIIB then I most likely will. I do like having the option of not having to pair if I don't want to carry a stack around. Definitely paired with MKIIIB...- jliu

The Best? DX100 vs AK100 vs Altmann Tera
rwak100 for me. Just ordered one today. Will be pairing it with my MKIIIB running fitear 334s and at home my HE-500. Main reason for picking the RWAK100 was the 160gb of space and adding obviously more with the SD slots. 2nd reason was looks and size. 3rd reason was it supports...- jliu

FitEar TO GO! & Universal Series --- Suyama's custom IEM, made universal!
I seem to have the best fit with the stock silicon. The vacuum effect is a bit annoying but with a slight adjustment is fine. I have tried the comply 500 tips and have found it is much more difficult to have them not block the sound in some way.- jliu

FitEar TO GO! & Universal Series --- Suyama's custom IEM, made universal!
well some of us use our amp and dac for more than IEM's. For example my set up of Solo/MKIIIB is also for my HE-500's.- jliu

What should be my first open back headphone?
Just to add my 2 cents ... the HE-400 definitely is not finicky on amp. The HE-500 is not as efficient as the HE-400 but I have zero problem running them on my MKIIIB on middle gain. It doesn't even hit half way up before it is just too loud for me. On the other hand the HE-6 I had issues...- jliu

What should be my first open back headphone?
I would suggest the HiFiMan HE-500. I absolutely love them. Of course I don't think you mentioned what your price range is? My IEM's are shure 535, Westone 4, and FitEar 334.- jliu
