my first guess would be variations in the enclosure manufacturing process. when something is hand-made like this...it's pretty difficult to produce identical results each and every time. there are bound to be slight variations imo.

i think you'll be hard-pressed to find a pair of L3000's under $2k at this time. for that "deep deep earth shattering BASS"...within, your budget, i'd recommend you look at the jvc hp-dx1000's, as well as the denon d5000's (or if you want to wait for larry's release, i'm sure the darth d2000's...
