Irish Meet! Saturday 22nd March 2008 Dublin

Just saying Hi from another Northern Ireland head-fi'er. I won't be able to make the meet, but hope it goes well for all of you! Enjoy! Andrew

Question for students in healthcare or medical care fields.

Hi, I'd recommend Littman as well, I've used a Classic II for many years. Or, you could try what one of my sneaky colleagues did - go to the hospital staff cafeteria, and say that you've lost your stethoscope - a large box of assorted scopes will be pulled out for your perusal! But that's not...

Couple fights to name baby 'Metallica'

I have a good friend who changed his name officially to General Megatron Bison. A childhood obsession with transformers and streetfighter! He used to work in a bank, with a name badge and everything. He goes by Meggy for short. He's a really nice, humble guy. Andrew

    anyone from northern ireland

Hi Fran, you're setup looks great! You're right, that's the earlier model of the AI 300, can't remember if there was much of a difference between the two apart from aesthetics. If you want to improve the amp, it might be worth getting some different valves, maybe swapping the capacitors, that...

Hi Fran, one and the same! I'm glad they're working out for you! Making good sounds then? Hopefully you got them home in one piece! Andrew

    anyone from northern ireland

No, not the first! I've been lurking since day 5 of Head-fi. Eeeek. There's not enough of a market in Northern Ireland for hifi. There's Kronos in Dungannon, and Lyric, and that's about it. There's always eBay... Andrew

    Indian Runner Fails Gender Test

Am I the only person who saw the title of this thread, and thought it was about these little guys? [It's an Indian Runner duck]

    PDA Recommendations?

I'd just like to add that I've had no stability issues with my Treo 650 (latest firmware) - I know my T5 had a few, but I think that was the software I was using - things like ScummVM and tcpmp would crash it regularly if I wasn't careful. I have not yet had to reset my Treo (hah! Famous last...

    PDA Recommendations?

Jules, you obviously haven't discovered iSilo and BNF for free - if you're on www.doctors.net.uk, browse the PDA forum for more information! Andrew

    PDA with a MAC?

I've used a T5 and a Treo 650 (current PDA) with the latest OS X, and it works just fine. I don't use Palm Desktop, I just use iCal and my Mac contacts, and it syncs perfectly. Docs to Go functions well also. Andrew

    PDA Recommendations?

Hi, I used a Palm for the last couple of years of medical school, and have been using one while working as a doctor. I have found them to be very useful, first of all as a diary, and also for storing textbooks and notes on. I'm currently using a Treo 650 phone/PDA which I bought secondhand...

    Best recording of Verdi's Requiem.

I would recommend the Fricsay recording - I think Maria Stader's soprano singing in it is gorgeous! Less operatic, more sincere. The Giulini is another good one. Andrew

    Replacing woofer in loudspeaker?

Yeah, Budgie, that sounds about right. Some of those old speakers used big big magnets, I'm not surprised things start to droop! And I'm glad that you don't have to replace drive units as often as you do car tyres, otherwise this would be one expensive hobby; that is, even more expensive than it...

    Replacing woofer in loudspeaker?

Oh, good choice! Which recording? Don't crank it up to loud straight off, I don't know what kind of shifting might be going on in the drive unit diaphragm after turning it upside down following 25 years of being the other way round... Hope this works out for you. Let it run for a while, and if...
